I think people need to realise Solanke isnt necessarily going to solve any problems other than having a second striker in the squad.

Last season was his first season over 10 goals? He could bet easily go through a normal dry patch. I think we definitely overpaid.

Richy does get us goals when fit and when service is good, like most strikers. The biggest issue we have is I don't think we have fixed the issue of the service. Maddison is nailed on to start, not press and slows the game down. I think Bergvall keeps the pace of the game quick and his work rate is high. We now need the width supplied quicker so they can get the ball into dangerous areas quicker, or the midfield plays quicker through balls.

Reminds me of getting a centre back and talk about going 3 at the back. We have 2 centre forwards, keep them up front competing. Sure there will come times to play them together when chasing a goal but it won't happen too often.
You're not suggesting we change coach again! Surely we give Ange another season? Or are you suggesting Ange might change his tactics? That's even less realistic...

I don't agree, i think he solves a massive problem, the biggest problem in fact - granted a normal run of luck with injuries to Solanke and Richy, we now have the capability to field a true 'Ange' CF for every game , PL or Cup, without having to pull our favoured wide players out of position to cover (which in turn weakens that wide position as well as the CF position).

Sure our supply line can be improved, and may very well be improved later in the window, but just having a proper no.9 making proper no.9 runs and holding the ball up like a proper no.9 (as opposed to it bouncing off Sonny for example) will lead to more and better chance creations.

And if he were to go through a dry patch, i expect he'll still be contributing to goal scoring chances, or else Richy will be playing in his place. As for the price tag, it's absolutely more money than i think he is worth but i would say the same about 90% of all transfers these days.

I agree with @BENNO. It's just not about the goals he scores. It's the pressing, the hold-up play and the ability to help out defending set pieces. You don't really get a lot of that with Son.

But that being said, we scored 74 Premier League goals last season, so if Solanke scores 10 Premier League goals, that could make a big difference. We don't necessarily need him to score 20 goals. Son can still score goals from out wide, and Richy should still score a few if he's being rotated with Solanke.

Richy and Solanke are very similar. Big, abrasive, high work rate, good in the air etc so they should interchange very easily. I'd like to see better delivery into the box from wide areas although Johnson was starting to find his feet by the end of last season. Kulu needs to be more aware of what our strikers need and shouldn't be hanging onto the ball so long. I think both of them also thrive on low cut backs into the box and can probably learn bits and pieces from each other. Richy had a torrid season so hopefully he has better luck this time around. I don't think we're in any rush to sell him.

Suspect this will be his last season with us.
Can’t imagine he’ll be happy to stay another year, once he realises he’s not the first choice.

How is he still injured ? His fitness is a real concern.
He's not injured anymore, he's not match fit. He's been in on-the-ball training last week, and he will have another full week of training this week. There's no point rushing him to play pre-season games if he wasn't quite ready. The season is long, and having players fit and available is more important than rushing someone back early.

Solanke is here now, he can start against Leicester and we can ease Richy back in playing 10-15-20-30 mins at the end of the first few games until he reaches full match fitness and then the Europa League games start and we're playing 2 games a week. Which is exactly what Ange was saying about having the strength in depth where we can look after players and not having to run them into the ground til they break.

Got a feeling he's going to score tonight, even if it's after coming off the bench
Hopefully the two of them step up as needed. Ideally Dom has banged a hatrick in by the time we call for Richy to get some miles in his legs.

Can also see Richy getting opportunities from the wings aswell

Personally I'd be very surprised if he get many, if any, minutes from the wing
