It happens all the time though, nobody really wants to go under the knife until it's absolutely necessary.
Right or wrong, everybody will want to try to resolve the issue without surgery if they can.
Surgery is a last resort when everything else has failed.
And I bet most footballers play many games where they're completely pain free so they've probably worked through some injuries whilst carrying on playing so think they can with all.

If we could get £40m plus for him it would outstanding business and allow us to strengthen by bringing in a better suited and quality striker or winger.

Maybe that's why he is having the surgery now.
It also means (if I'm being cynical) that he limits further opportunities to get injured.

We shall see. But maybe this is best for all parties in the long run.
Our recruitment better be top notch in January.

Yeah if we can get good money for him and hojberg and some money for Gil should give us good funds to really strengthen. CB, forward ideally top RW (Williams) and ideally a 6 rotation.

Surely he will reject any Saudi approach. Money aside it is more or less a self admission that he couldn't cut it at a big club. He doesn't seem the character to give up so easily.

I’d love to see him come good here personally. But if we get silly money for him then we need to be ruthless.

He has a lot of charity work going on, kind of like Yaya Toure.

He was criticised at the time for taking a (then) step down from Barca to City.

Turns out he was sending most of his money back home building schools etc.

I think this surgery and recovery will feel like a reset for him, and hopefully us. I would really really like to see him become that all action CF we want him to be. He seems like such a sound lad.

I still think he can be a very effective player for us so I hope his surgery is a success.

It's going to be tough to sign a striker mid season. Maybe we could get a wide attacker but I would keep Richarlison for the season. We could use him to cover Son in Jan anyway.

If we don't take the opportunity to move players on who aren't in the long term plans we may get stuck with them for the duration. If an acceptable offer comes in we have to accept it.

We've been heavily linked to Gimenez and loosely linked to Leonardo. Both players would be available in Jan for around or less then what we would expect to get for Richy. Im sure there are others out there as well. I agree we aren't going to get a top quality striker of the caliber of someone like Lautaro or Osimhen in Jan but we aren't shopping in that market ether regardless if its January or July.

So like Sanchez then?

Even if we leave ourselves short this season? If we can get someone in Jan then great but not sure I want to go half a season short up front. Surely he would have options in summer too.
