IMHO we need to stop saying he will be all right next season, surely we need players who are good in whatever this season may be, not one sometime in the future. All we are doing is hamstringing ourselves yet again.

Not sure where everyone is saying he was brought in to be Kane's replacement?

He was brought because our rotation options were horrendous and we've never had a player who could adequately fill in for either Kane or Son.

you could easily argue we still don't given his output

I posted in the Kulusevski thread but basically every attacker is rendered useless in this setup.
to a degree but I would say what is really rendered useless is team play and cohesion - the system whatever it is supposed to be ends up almost entirely dominated by the defensive unit being so deep the midfield whatever their role is ends up playing of the back lines toes and the forwards are trying to pick the ball up in their own half most of the time and build there own play - it's a mess you can't build up any cohesive football our ball retention is laughable there is no pressure on the ball so so sides have time to have a cigar when they are playing and as for winning the ball back in the opposition half it so rarely happens you are amazed when it does

Just looking forward to the end of the season

Whenever we spend huge money we seem to fall flat on our face.

Big money signings Postiga, Rebrov, Soldado, Ndombele, Davison Sanchez all major letdown for huge fees.

Richarlason hasn't one goal in the league, for a 60m player I'd expect a little more. Yes he puts himself about a bit but so did Lamela and he had more impact as a player.

If Kane leaves Spurs, which surely must be on the cards, I worry baout our crowd expecting him to score a shit load of goals. If he even got to 15 premier league goals a season I'd be surprised.

That player doesn't exist.

tolbiny - I would love to see what you see because if you don't think this team is a mess you must either be blindingly optimistic or have a decent labrador

I think those saying he’ll come good next season are probably referring to the fact that he’s clearly the Kane replacement.
In my eyes that’s why he was bought in.

I just think if Kane does go, I would not be putting my eggs all in the Richarlison basket.

I would be going all out for Thuram or someone in that mould that could play/compete with Richarlison. I like Richy but with a bad form season in addition to some injuries that would make the Kane exit potentially look 10000 times more painful.

I'd love to be entitled as some to think that Brazil's no.9 isn't good enough for Tottenham, but I don't think that I have it in me given where we're at.

Needs to actually be given a run and trusted before we decide that he's not worked out and fans want to get rid at a loss, otherwise we're just pulling our own pants down again. He is not another big signing flop having been given ample opportunities, seeing as he hasn't been given the opportunities.

Yeah. It's virtually impossible to judge anyone based on this season.

By way of comparison, Kulusevski, Romero and Son have also looked very poor this season.
Agree. People tend to forget that for the 1st time ever we had a World Cup slap bang in the middle of the season.
Some players got injured during it or suffered from metal or physical fatigue because of it.
This is not the season to be writing players off IMO, especially when it is their 1st season at the club.

Needs a 10 to play with him, someone to thread the ball, how many players do we have who can do that? Deki perhaps but he needs feeding as well from CM to create. Basically we’ve got too many shooters we need assisters.

maybe but he never had that at Everton either - doesn't look in this team that his bright around the box and would link up with players that well but that as you say it is not something we pocess at all - so far at Tottenham his biggest asset has been his aerial play (apart from Saturday) and that he is a willing worker if anything he looks a bit awkward on the ball

Seems like the same people complaining about Son’s first season are at it again.
Son came from a different league, different language , was younger etc etc.

Richarlison should have hit the ground running really.

I'm not writing him off but he has a lot to prove if he is going to be anything more than a squad player.

Was criminal to pay 60M for a squad playing striker when we had the need for starting centre half's. Think he is better than this season, but a Kane replacement then God help us next yr.

he does alright but the key moment was the header and it was a terrible miss
Kane has missed those too, it happens. Remember he’s also probably rusty and not full of confidence.

Personally i would right anyone off with a more attack minded manager. Even Ndombele with someone like Kompany; I could see him reinventing him as more of a 10. Get in the spaces, use his strength and passing ability. I could see him being more useful in a role where he doesnt have to press or run back to defend. I really think we’ve been using our players wrong.

This is exactly the problem

Son has been appalling this season.

Kulusevski started well enough but has been affected.

Richy didn't get the required time early in the season - you know, to build confidence - got injured as soon as he started getting going and came back just as everything was turning to shit.

Richarlison's form is all on Conte. Didn't use him effectively early on, lost his confidence and thats why Richy was fuming in that interview.

Dog shit management.

Even Kane despite his goals hasn't been anywhere close to the level of last season and under Jose due to the attacking system.

Earlier in the season a few of us aired views that Kane wasn't playing great but scoring and attacks were breaking down because players were just not sharp enough. The defence was doing okay.

We expected the attack to sharpen up but Conte consistently was making bad choices and its inevitably led to players losing confidence, rhythm and chemistry.

What a shame they didn't just get a temporary guy in to take the shackles off to give players like Richy a chance to show his best

I think he’s a good squad player who can play as a forward across the front line, come in, work hard and cause teams problems.

BUT

We spent £60m on him and he doesn’t have stand out attributes. He can’t really dribble or beat his man, isn’t quick, touch isn’t great etc.

More importantly he’s never going to be a 20 goal a season striker imo, so there’s no way he can replace Kane as first choice, or we will be in massive trouble. He’s scored 5, 13, 13, 7, 10 and 0 PL goals across the last 6 seasons.

I do want to see what a better coach can do but I just think he lacks standout attributes and finishing ability to play striker and he doesn’t have the explosiveness, dribbling, touch or creativity to play wide for a team trying to compete in the top 6.
You have just described Harry Kane
