In BBC's Team Of The Week:

Radu Dragusin (Tottenham): I think he was superb coming into a new partnership with Cristian Romero because Micky van de Ven was injured - and then Romero went off too. Dragusin equipped himself well against a very good Aston Villa team and didn't put a foot wrong.

I thought he played well and is a good, solid, backs to the wall defender. His passing ability and generally playing out under pressure, particularly when covering on the left does concern me somewhat but as long as he is cover and not the main man then I think it'll be fine.

I'm not looking got anything, positive or negative. Just giving my honest opinion on a player. I'm not just going to give a false opinion on a player because we won the match.

On the Ange thing, there was ITK recently that claimed Ange/Lange were concerned with Dragusin's limited passing when they scouted him, but were so desperate for a CB last Jan that they took the view that he had enough that the hopefully coach him to improve that aspect of his game.
I don’t recall that at all. Who?

I really can't remember. It might have been ITK gleaned from another forum by someone on here. I definitely read it on here though.

Either way, I don't need it to legitimise my point. The guy is poor on the ball - like, Dawson/Davinson levels poor. I have nothing against him, I actually think he is a good defender, but his ability on the ball is night and day compared to Cuti and VDV. That's why I doubt he will ever truly oust any of first choice centre backs to claim a regular spot.

I guess it's all relative, but it feels like we have moved on significantly from the days of opponents targeting Sanchez and Royal because of their lack of ability on the ball.

Thats fair enough mate.

But this nonsense that he was terrible on the ball against Villa is just not true.

Thats what I took issue with.

Wimmer's first season here was great. He stepped in when one of our main two was out with a long term injury and the team never skipped a beat. I was surprised when he went to Stoke and even more so at how poor he became.
100% mate. It was Super Jan that was injured in January 2016, and Wimmer played with Toby for 2-3 months. The team stats were better with Wimmer than with Verthongen that season(!), but as soon as Jan was back from injury he slotted straight back into the starting 11. Remember there were quite a few fans hoping Wimmer would stay as a starter as he we had been so good with him. We had the joint-lowest goals against in the PL that season.

Baffling how shit he was at Stoke. We made good money on him thoug, buying him for something around £5M and selling him for more than £18M.

I'd like to see us play to his strengths a bit more. He's a very 'direct' CB, in that his first action is to win the ball and clear danger. Asking him to be a proxy Romero is putting him in a difficult position with his skillset. Let him attack the ball, win it, and get it away from danger, and be prepared to then pick up the second ball in midfield.

He is so bad in possession he can’t be a long term option for us. You can’t be a possession team with defenders that bad on the ball. With him, Forster in goal and Davies LCB it was a nightmare trying to play out.

he's not particularly nimble on his feet either.
