Had a good game, but he's the one that leaves both newcastle players onside in their 2nd goal. If we are going to use a high line, he will need to learn this

It's all irrelevant imo. If we are going to play this high on the half way line. We need to either cut off the ball through at source, or have enough recovery pace that we can outrun the forwards
We managed neither for that goal.

it is more Romeros fault here, there is no pressure on the ball carrier. Tt is soemthing you learn quite early as a defender, you fall back if there is no pressure on the ball carrier and you have charging attackers on both sides

You can not risk playing them off side all the way on the midfield line there, Romero is flat on his feet watching the ball carrier, poor defending

Spot on. It's suicidal at this level. Joelinton is press resistant as it is and think it was Maddison with a tired looking attempt to close him down and get to him but couldn't cope. Once Joelinton was clear of him and had the time and space to look up with our defence sat on the half way line and Murphy facing our goal it's a nightmare situation for us. Might get away with it against the lesser sides but will absolutely get punished against the better sides.

Exactly, look at the space and time Joelinton has. Nobody putting any pressure on him. He had all the time in the world to play the perfect pass.

Doesn’t matter how good or bad your defenders are, allowing a midfielder that much space when playing a high line is absolutely criminal imo.

I think this is on Romero. If you're playing a high line you need to be on the half turn and side on to run back. Udogie Porro and Radu are doing that and Romero just isn't so he has zero chance to get back

In that position with that much space to in behind even VDV would struggle but feel he would have got there

Maddison should have pulled joelinton back

On Romero but also on the manager for playing such a mad high line?

I think Maddison might have already been on a yellow at this point?

Not only does the press need to be organised but you have to pick your moments. Conserve some energy for 5 mins before going at them again. I think a lot of it is knackered players as well as poor organisation.

Does he start the NLD?

Romero's been exposed against Leicester and Newcastle now. Both times he was way below the standard expected. I'd have no problem if Dragusinn got the nod for the NLD because he's there to compete for a place and Romero isn't cutting it right now. Nobody should be guaranteed a place, especially if they keep making mistakes. Romero needs a wake up call imo.

Agreed. I just think Romero has missed pre-season and needs to find his footing but I was thinking maybe Dragusin is more up to speed at the minute so should start against Arsenal. I do reckon Ange will pick Romero and VDV as long as both are fit though.
