First time I've seen him for any length of time and he looked the real deal. Better on the ball than I thought he'd be and also a little bit quicker. He's a genuine first XI option and not just an up and coming youngster or square peg in round hole back-up.

Important with what we hope will be European football next season to give VDVs hammies a bit of a rest.
Very interesting to see what happens. I was really impressed with him.

I thought it might be possible we go with Dragusin and Romero centre back and push VDV to the left.

But then Udogie has been excellent for the most part and VDV has been superb at centre back.

Guess it’s one of those “good problems.”

Not easy to do well until you form a good partnership with another CB, great game from him. I feel a lot more confident with set pieces when he plays too.

Likes Erik Lamela, deal with it.

Had an excellent game and I was really pleased for him. He has had to wait for his chance and he took it really well.

Yeh it's a terrific problem, because it means we can quite simply rest VDV if we need to and just go Porro, Romero, Dragusin, Udogie. It doesn't need to be enforced - we have a genuine option.

Have to say it's pretty strange we haven't seen more of him, given our obvious deficiencies in the air have been brutally exposed week after week and has effectively cost us a CL place.

True but not sure what the answer was.

Do we change to 3 centre backs or push VDV to left wing back? Drop Romero or VDV?

Considering the 2 best clubs in the country play with 4 centre backs most of the time I'm sure with a bit of tactical flexibility we could've made it work. Particularly once Udogie was out for the season.

Really impressed last night - he looked a class act, quick, comfortable on the ball, good tackle and always in position.

No wonder Lloyd and Toisin don't want to join to be 4th choice.

We probably need another CB for cover, but I think his performance last night has proven he is more than capable of stepping in to the LCB position if either Micky or Udogie are unavailable. Nice to see how much it meant to him with that unbelievable block too, despite it being offside.

He'll get a lot of game time next season if we qualify for Europe.

With VDV doing decent as left back and Radu showing he is very good at CB, could Udogie be a make shift DM ala what Bayern did with Lahm?

Well VDV to LB would have worked, but there’s the concerns about his fitness. Definitely would have toughened us up for some of our recent away games though so it’s a shame it wasn’t tried earlier.

Know bugger all about sporting injuries but I would have thought the last ditch sweeping sprints that VDV does as a CB would be more stressful on the hammies than the more volume running as a LB.

A decent performance defensively, but playing him LCB you could see how uncomfortable he is in possession on his weaker left foot. A reasonable back up for Romero and possibly at RB as well.

I don't know why but I find this picture very funny.
Looks like Haaland had a tough time in the physical fights against Radu.

I’ve seen a video on X of him protecting Vicario at a corner which allows him to come out and collect it. That’s what we’ve needed for months now. Shame it took to the last game of the season to get him in and sort it out.
