As a side note, I wonder whether we have an advantage over other selling clubs to do these sorts of deals as we are almost uniquely positioned in terms of our revenue and PSR status. We’ve struggled for years to offload players but we can unlock a whole new market of buyers if we’re able to offer delayed payment terms. The quid pro quo is we can negotiate higher fees in exchange. £17m for a 28 year old fringe player in the last year of his contract is a great deal, and one that probably wouldn’t have been otherwise affordable for a club like Marseille.

Great bloke, hard working, gives his all.

Also the least press-resistant midfielder we’ve had for years and always has a mistake in him, all too often on the edge of our box.

Glad we had him, glad we’ve moved on.
Yep. Just like Emerson Royal he’s a really good player and top pro who doesn’t fit with what we want to do. Hope they both smash it wherever they go

I’ve always thought that Levy worries as much about the wage bill as he does transfer fees, so this is a good bit of business for Spurs as it frees up wages, especially as PEH was never going to get a lot of minutes.

Good luck Pierre.

Still a good idea. If someone (particularly Saudis) come in for him next year, his fee will automatically be much higher because he’ll have a longer contract.
Plus these continental clubs seem better at receiving big fees than paying them! 😂

As I've said on a number of occasions, players with only a year left typically go for about 50% of their 'long' contract value. So if he didn't have a year left it implies that his value is ~ £24m which I think is reasonable given that he's nearly 29 and will have little or no resale value

He's been a good servant so good luck to him. Totally understand him going to Marseille. Gets to live in the South of France (my family live there so I know it well and can definitely recommend) and in a team that will actually challenge rather than e.g. Fulham whose first target every season is to stay up

The only team who don't seem to understand this point is Brentford who have 'cut' the price of Toney but are apparently still wanting £50m which implies a long contract value of £100m. Which is absolute nonsense for a 28 yo with off field issues who has not been prolific in quite some time

I just love that we get people complain when we aren't aggressive to get rid of players and then question the low fee when we do

Today was hilarious. There were some that were climbing over themselves for Spurs to sell PEH and then when we did a deal, a lot of the same people were up in arms at the deal ! We're a funny old lot ain't we ?

We got what looks like an OK fee.
Saved some wages.
PEH will be more involved where he's going.
Either room for a shiny new player or a youngster to step up.
Good luck to PEH and COYS

Best of luck to him. Decent player with a top attitude and absolutely bullet proof. Think he'll do well there.
