Sorry guys but he’s not a good defender.

He should be playing as a wingback with a back three behind him.

I'm going to be really harsh but he did about 3 things wrong for their first goal that you shouldn't do as a defender.

1. Got sucked into the middle when there was two player already who could have stopped central attacker. This left space for the player Porro was supposed to mark. This is minor but...

2. Turned his back on his man when trying to find him which is another thing you're taught not to do as a schoolboy.

3. Then he over committed twice defending against what is a pretty average player and allowed plenty of room for them to put a cross in on their stronger foot.

I realise this is very nit picky but I think it's representative of him lacking the fundamental defending talent that you get a specialist wing back.

Going forward he is excellent I must say. I totally see why we bought him but if we are trying to solve why we give away so many cheap goals then I think we have to acknowledge that our fullbacks are better going forward than in defence.

Prepared for the hate....

Pedro Porro 6
Got nowhere near to Keane Lewis-Potter’s cross for the opening goal, but then raised his game and produced a typically energetic display.

Pedro Porro

Gave Lewis-Potter too much room to cross in those opening 25 seconds. Worked hard up and down his flank although he seemed to tire late on. 7

RB: Pedro Porro - 6/10 - Allowed Lewis-Potter the freedom to run in behind a little too often, while he was sloppier than usual when in possession.

If you’re going to quote people, you should at least tell us whom you are quoting.

There are not many in the world who are top attackers and top defenders.
Yes i get that.

My overall point is that in a back four where you have two wide wingers in front shouldn’t the defenders be better at defending?

Porro was bought as a wingback to play in a five if i remember. There he’d be protected from positional mistakes and errors.

I’m not saying he can’t defend. I’m saying given our attacking set up it’s possible he’s contributing to our leaky defence.

I do actually like the guy so this isn’t personal. It’s more trying to root out why we hand goals out regularly to our opponents.

And if there were we certainly won’t be the club they want to go to!
His transformation since the first season has been amazing especially given how he has gone through three managers and numerous formation changes.
Kudos to the guy and one of my first names on the team sheet

His excellence is becoming the norm so is less commented upon.

Just is playing at a consistently high level.
