There were times yesterday when Sarr absolutely destroyed Antony.

Sarr cost £15m. Antony cost £80m.

Since people keep going on about this several pages later (ironically mostly driven by those offended by someone possibly being offended), and I can see WTF-ratings continues to trickle in on Stamford's original post, I'll make one last comment on the subject.

Stamford made a wish. He/she asked us not to use a term. Asked. Not demanded. And not in a rude way whatsoever. No one is forcing any of us to agree with the wish, and those who feel it is making a mountain out of a molehill are of course allowed to feel that way. But don't freaking belittle it by coming up with nonsensical comparisons or liken it with the opinions of flat-earthers, or whatever. With some perspective, surely no one here thinks it's a good idea to ridicule concerns about racism by drawing a parallel to mocked conspiracy theories, whether you agree with the sentiment or not?

The fact is that this is a debate that has been going on for DECADES when it comes to black athletes. It is talked about at universities. There are indeed many studies on the topic. And it is very much a real thing for a lot of people. Again, feel free to think it is a silly concern if you want, but maybe have some empathy for those who very much feel it is a real thing?

Sorry for keeping things off-topic. Maybe we can all find common ground again in the absolutely amazing performance Sarr put in against Man U?

I'm black and take zero umbrage with a description of a players qualities. Because a player is black we shouldn't suddenly tip toe around a point. We find offence in the smallest stuff. I'm not sure that this argument has gone on for decades unless I've misunderstood you.... has there been racism towards them yes it still happens today...but lets not turn an innocuous comment where a player was being complimented into an offence. People are giving the wtf rating because they are astounded how an innocent compliment is turned into a issue on race.

I could easily choose to take offence to the poster saying Bissouma is a Destroyer....because as a black person once again when we protest it can turn ugly and not often peaceful as an example ( especiallyin the country where i live) .. now should I take offence because a poster sees a black player as a destroyer ? We choose the flimsiest stuff to be offended by.

I've contributed to completely derailing this thread. I'll leave it there and not continue this point. My apologies to everyone.

He really suited that 8 position. Him and Skipp did an ok job at Milan last year, but let's face the drop deep plan of a midfield 2 really stifled our players full potential.

Sarr showed how much he could offer going forward and what he could do with the ball, especially as we seem to have much better off the ball movement this season. He has a lot of potential to develop into an excellent box-to-box midfielder. If he can add goals like he did on Saturday, then he will have been an incredible find.

I seem to recall that he’s actually black himself, so when he’s saying “please don’t call black players beasts“ he’s not “being offended on someone else’s behalf” or “projecting his own thoughts onto others.”

He’s asking nicely to consider the words you’re using.

This isn’t something he’s just plucked out of his arse either. It’s been discussed on here before, and like others have pointed out there have been studies into this kind of racial bias. Black players are more often than not praised for this physical prowess and white players are more often praised for their intelligence, leadership, and work rate.

He’s actually quite small, and I can see him getting out muscled against better midfielders than Mount and Fernandes. What I do see in him though is brilliant work rate, bags of energy, and the intelligence to spot the empty space to run into to score his goal on Saturday. He exploited that position a few times and it paid off for him.

He’s clearly got bags of potential, but he’s not a beast.

I never described him as a beast or an animal but if someone gets described as such and then you go to race and find a correlation it's on you.

Interestingly I was watching the latest Dawson and Milesy interview on Spursplay yesterday and Sandro was the guest (definitely worth a watch, Sandro is a legend). They referred to him as as the Beast which, if I recall was his nickname back then.

Anyway Sarr is going to be a hell of a player.
