Different type of players which is good for our squad. Winks plays a pivot role with early touches and sharp short distribution. Skip is more of a number 8 and can certainly surge. Great that Poch gave them both a start today and in the first half we bossed possession because of them. Probably need to look past a 'starting eleven' approach this season....we truly have options. If we can get Dele fit, keep Eriksen and integrate Tunday plus use the power of Sissoko we will be a big multi competition threat

Seems to me that we are getting our very own Xavi and Iniesta CM team here where Xavi plays a discipline role to make play while Iniesta brings the ball upfield to create the openings. Great times ahead!

Pre season or not was great to see the confidence Skill played with. Didn't really see it last season, but it looks like his attitude is right, hence Poch's backing. Very keen to see what he can do this season. At his age he has a huge room for improvement and excited go see what he adds.

What also makes great players is the chemistry to inter-play with those around them. Both Winks and Skipp have plenty of that.

My Man of the match, I think he's put to bed any idea of sending him out on loan this season, he'll be part of the squad & will become a regular imo

Good game today but would like him loaned to Fulham as part of Sessegnon deal.
I don't know how you could have watched his performance in that game and thought he should be helping some other team rather than our own.

If he could bring that level of performance to the team in the real games then it would be a massive boost for the entire squad. Especially considering the question marks over Wanyma and Dier.

I might be reading too heavily into the tea leaves but the fact that it seemed Poch wanted him out there for the entire 90 (making him the only one aside from Gazzaniga) makes me think Poch wants to have an extended look at him to make a decision on him contributing to the first team.

I have to say if that's the case then Skipp did himself extremely well there and a few more like that should see him earning plenty of minutes for the first team next year.

He looks far more confident than he did last season. Kept things simple for the most part but was willing to both get stuck in and express himself a bit more - loved him harrying the Juve players and that no-look pass through to Lucas.

If he can play like that in the league he'll be a more than able deputy to Winks, or a solid option on the right hand side of a 3 or a diamond.

He is starting to believe that he can play at this level of football and I think he will be massive plus for us going forward.

Dare I say, he reminds me a bit of Roy Keane in his playstyle. He doesn't really fit into the modern cms you see, he's got a lot of defensive qualities but I wouldn't pigeon hole him into a DM, he has a little more expansiveness without necessarily the dribbling ability of dembele, ndombele. He has more traits similar to the Keane/Viera era of a box to box midfielder for me swaying towards the keane side.

Next summer when Toby most probably leaves, I'd like Skipp to go given the number 4 shirt. :joyful:

He'll make it in this league if he stays healthy, great prospect. He should get plenty of minutes in cups this season.

Last season I thought he was a bit meh. Looked out of his depth and would be the next Tom Carroll, in other words not quite good enough for what we as a club needed.

Seeing him play on Sunday against Juventus I have to take it all back. He was a different player, turned into a beast. Probably drank the same elixir as Sissoko!! I hope it isn't a false dawn and he continues in this vain.

I'm in the same boat, just relieved I prefaced all my comments with saying this is why I'm not a professional scout and Poch is at the time:LOL:. There's an argument to say that he wasn't as confident as he is now though, I hadn't seen any of his youth football but clearly we weren't seeing what the youth teams were treated to last season, although he did alright vs Everton.

There's a hell of a difference between a pre-season friendly and competing in the premiership. No need to rush the kid. He should get plenty of minutes in the cups this season and see where he goes from there.

Absolutely agree. Yes it was a pre season friendly, but it was the hunger and, more surprisingly, the confidence he showed throughout the game that marked him down as 'READY'. He is progressing very quickly and no way do you do anything to halt that.
