But the two previous seasons when we were in Europe he played the equivalent of about 21 or 22 matches a season.

AND Ange wasn't our manager then.
I don't think he plays the way Ange wants him to and therefore needs a move, for his own good but not necessarily from the clubs point of view.

Yeah, I agree. He was arguably more of a Mourinho/Nuno/Conte player and he still couldn't force his way into becoming a regular first-teamer, despite our midfield options being limited. Now we have a much more progressive coach and more competition in Skipp's position. I like him, and I don't think he's ever lets us down, but I don't see where he fits now.

According to WLB wolves are interested in him (and Rodon).
That would be a good move for him

Someone is going to get an absolute bargain when they sign Skipp. He's on a different level to Mason, LIvermore and Winks, yet they all won England caps. In my opinion Skipp will move to a mid to lower table team, will put up stats that show him to be one of the best ball winners in the Prem and one of the most consistent passers. He's not the most athletic player so needs to be in top shape to compete in the Prem and has struggled to get back after injuries with us. But in a team where he'd be given more time to get in top shape, I think he'll thrive. I think other than Kane, he's our best academy graduate since King (not including the latest bunch as it's too early to say.)

High praise indeed!

What helped shape this opinion?

Genuinely intrigued, unfortunately I don't share your optimism.

It's based on his time at Norwich and then the only time he was a first team regular for us, which was the first half of the 21/22 season. He got injured in Jan 22 and that ended his season. But it's pretty much unrecognized by our fans that in that period he started 14 games and we won 10 of them and had a ppg that would have put us on 84 pts. His passing accuracy was 90%. Even when we beat City he had an 89% accuracry. But when he was injured we bought Bentancur and wasn't fit until the following October. Since then he's barely had a run.

Young players need to be given time to develop and his development has been hampered. But he's still the same player who was so good at Norwich and was part of a team that showed CL form under Nuno/Conte. The Nuno/Conte period (before Deki and Bents) is largelly considered a disaster, but that is anything but true in the 14 games Skippy started. At that time everyone had high hopes for him and for good reason. It's just been forgotten since. He'll be a really good buy for someone in this league and with regular football will thrive.

Thanks for taking the time to write a well informed reply. Respect.

There was a period under Conte, where Skippy would’ve been second name on the team sheet after Kane.

We were more defensive and compact in defense, but Skippy protecting the back four, was a big part of our form at that time.

When he got injured, I felt like it was the end of the season almost. Conte’s presser when he said Skippy was out, he looked like he was about to cry…..he was a bit emo at the best of times though.

Let's hope he wants him at napoli then

Yeah I think he'll offer an awful lot to the team he goes to. I was a little surprised that this was the first link to a Premier league club ( that I can recall ) to be honest but very worthy.

The takeaway I got from yesterday is that the poor lad is balding already. Just shave it off and save the agony.

He’s been included in the squad flying out on the tour whereas Gil and Reguillon haven’t and it specifically says they have been granted permission to stay to explore transfers. So sounds like Skipp is staying unless a ridiculous offer comes in.

Not necessarily, Royal is going but I think as soon as someone offers close enough to what we want he’ll be gone, with skipp ive never really seen him leaving this summer unless he forces it himself.
