Townsend to Sissoko is one of the more obscure comparisons I've seen on here...

Completely different style of play. One's an inverted winger, one's a strong wide-man.

I was comparing a player we recently had to one we've recently acquired who play in the same area of the pitch. Sorry if that's too obscure for you.

That may be so, but I don't see the difference if one's an apple and the other an orange - neither seem to contribute (yet) significantly to our style of play.

I thought Sissoko was distinctly average yesterday but am confident this is all "bedding in" time into our system and we will see the his best later in the season.

Bit in bold. We don't know what Poch has planned for Sissoko yet or when he's planning on using him. I still can't understand a comparison to Townsend because he had one game where he didn't significantly contribute!

I think average is harsh. Decent debut - worked hard, couple of chances, one being the shot that went just wide. A few decent crosses put in. He did OK.

Sissoko started his first game- played out his first 90min at his new club. I dont know how can anyone pass judgement on him in 1 game. We got to give him the time to develop.

Looks like he will be deployed in RW. He needs to get some partnership going with Walker. He certainly posseses good crossing ability. Potentially, Walker & Sissoko on right wing looks defintely menacing.

I think he'll be a huge asset for us once he fully settles down.

Pretty decent debut, I really liked his work ethic and attitude yesterday.

Fair enough. I think I'm letting the price tag interfere with my assessment. Not his fault, but (like Lamela) I think I was expecting some Euro's type form.

I see Sissoko as a player who thrives in counter attacking team with his pace. He needs his game to adjust to possession football. For that, he needs timel

Kept it pretty simple, put some decent balls in and got in between the lines a few times, but I think in a more open game it could work better, Sunderland were camped out for a lot of the time.

Re: the comparison made above.. Clearly in a different role, if not position to Townsend, Son is more in that mould cutting in and shooting, and is clearly a much, much, much better player than Andros.

Seems a strange signing when you compare him to Townsend. They are both quick and direct. They both have questionable end product but I'd say Townsend was more of a goal threat in spite of his 'row Z' tag. Sissoko probably better at tracking back (not difficult compared to Townsend) and has a great engine for 90 mins. But then you chuck in the relative transfer fees and I'm utterly confused.

Pace, power, versatility.

He's a huge upgrade on Townsend.

why can't his previous four years in england factor into our judgment? it's not like he's been plucked from relative obscurity like nkoudou.

I personally thought he offered something yesterday that no one else in our squad can (unless we play Dembele out of position). Pace and power as a wide-forward. He's a stronger, quicker upgrade on Chadli.

Your right but the annoying thing is chadhli had a knack of scoring and creating even though he seemed to be doing nothing most of the game, I only worry MS will be the oppostte

Because he played under 3 clueless managers...

A)John Carver (absolutely clueless)
B) Steve Mclaren (Absolutely Clueless)
C) Alan Pardew (Clueless when his teams go thro wretched runs)

National team under Deschamps looks a world beater.

Benitez when gave captaincy scored 1 assisted 2 , lead his team to 3 win 3 draws in last 6 games.

So....may be , there is good reason to give him time , especially when Pochettino has a proven track record of improving players who buy into his philosophy

He offers pace and an option on the right hand side. He like Dembele and Wanyama gives us strength and can pass the ball well. A welcome upgrade, he brings competition and added strength in depth to squad rotation.

He offers directness with the ball which we lacked. A very useful squad player

Not worth 30m but that's the market
