What are you talking about? He is our best performing CM when he plays. He shows loads of drive and effort and can transition with the ball well. You’re not telling me that Winks or Dier perform better for us when they play are you???‍♂️
Drive and effort to produce what?

Maybe but the thing is he's rubbish. It's just that standards have dropped and now we are excited by him cos he tries hard. I respect his graft but I want us to sign a proper midfielder and resign him to the bench as an impact player

Exactly this. A player that doesn't score, assist but runs around and points a lot is not what we should be basing our midfield on.

Jose has said he is not a cm, his heatmaps all show that he plays on the right side as he has for most of his career and him not playing centrally puts pressure on our other cm to cover more space.

I'm not debating that, but the fact is he is an important squad option that plays most weeks because we have fuck all else, and people on here seem pleased he's injured. On paper our best CM's are Ndombele and then Sissoko. I think most of us want to see those two in the middle in our strongest team. So why people are saying it's no big deal if he's injured are just demented. We know he's rubbish on the ball but he's all we have.

Now we are left with three players who are lightweight or just plain shit.

What do Dier, Winks or Skipp produce?
Winks and Skipp have the ability to pass a ball and see the ball a shit load more than pointy Sissoko. They know where to position themselves in a central midfield. Note I leave Dier out of this. He is a square peg in a round hole also but he may give us a defensive presence in a midfield 3.

We have Lo Celso, N'Dombele and Eriksen who I would also have as central midfielders above Sissoko.

We aren't going to miss Sissoko at all.

That’s exactly it. He hasn’t got better. Everyone else has just got worse!

No one said or believes this. He can barely trap a football.
At least we agree on his technical ability. I believe having some form of technical ability is key to being able to control a game from midfield. Sissoko imo does more harm than good when in cm.
That’s not what I’ve said though is it.
No agreed, you did say he was our best midfielder though?

After Ndombele and GLC he is. He was one of our best players last season and whilst technically he‘s poor I’d still feel a lot better about facing Liverpool with him in the team than having Winks and Skipp in there which is awful. Skipp is so unproven with no experience and Winks is just Winks and Dier...well enough said.

I think it depends on what you want from a CM. I do get that sissoko provides an element of athleticism. I suppose the question is do we want athleticism with someone who as others have described is being barely able to trap a ball or do we want players who are comfortable on the ball/receiving the ball who can pass the ball, retain possession, and try and get a foothold in midfield?

I definitely have a bee in my bonnet with Sissoko playing in there and the stats with my rose tinted glasses support that view but everyone is entitled to their opinion even if they are wrong ?

His carved out niche of vacating midfield to babysit Aurier, while commendable, just causes problems in the middle too. Whilst he always tries, he’s so much part of the problem rather than part of the solution to our midfield woes.
