Will this guy have to do National Service like Sonny at some stage?
If so at what age?
If I remember correctly Sonny got off lightly because of his services to the country.

All Koreans have to do 2 years which must start before they are 28.

To get an exemption (I think its actually a short time of a few weeks instead of 2 years rather than not do it at all), you have to win a gold medal at either the Olympics or the Asian games (which is how Son got out of it). South Korea have won gold in the the last 3 Asian games (football), so fingers crossed for 2026.

I’m sorry I know I’ve never seen him play but to rush him here to make an impact at his age and his experience seems utterly mental to me.

He could turn out to be the second coming of Messi but right now to turn to him to solve our wide forward issues is crazy.

No it'll be years before he's ready. He's played one season of Korean football.

And he's coming in of a full season as a starter. Which was also his first as a senior.

Is he being rushed to make an impact? I doubt he will even get a game this season. We signed him on a pre contract because the k league was still running. So his arrival is in January but there has been no indication we want him ready here and now. For all we know we could loan him in January but he's not our player yet so we don't know. We may keep him around to settle into training but even then he will not likely feature for a while.

I don’t know how much you rate journalists but McGrath saying that he’s going to “make an impact” in the team 2nd half of the season makes me think he’ll play. If we are hanging any hopes on him coming in and making a difference to the first team squad and we carry on as we are right now - the atmosphere could be minging at the ground in no time.
