Statistically speaking Yang matches up very favourably in his age group and he really has had an excellent season overall. 11 goals and 6 assists in 37 games given its his first senior season is very impressive whichever way you look at it. There where even rumours that City were very keen. But obviously the K League is incredibly weak and he is evidently still very raw.

If we had been clever we should have gone for Kang-In if we wanted to succession plan for Son (in regards to his nationality) as he would already be playing a key part in our system and will likely take Son's place as SK's next biggest star. Realistically I very much doubt we will see much of Yang for a few seasons and even then it's anyones guess how good he will really be. I really like the look of the kid, he has a very good technical floor and seems an intelligent player but the jump will be absolutely massive for him in every aspect.

Whilst from a statistical pov I can understand why we got him (given Lange's fondness for data), considering we very rarely look outside Europe for our transfers, and the strength of the league he currently plays in, I think it was very much a move with marketing being the primary driving force. Just have to hope he becomes good enough to market.
Of course, he obviously has some talent as lets be honest, he will only keep that money flowing if he's in some regard a success.

I do question a few of the signings made over the last few years as to what the primary reason was. Cynical me wonders if this was more about keeping the S. Korean Won flowing into the club over footballing reasoning.
I don't believe we sign any player if we don't think he's good enough but I think it's very likely that we brought him in exactly for that reason.

A lot of pressure on Moore and this lad to step up, through no fault of their own.

My opinion(and it is only that) is that we often drop to a player that is slightly behind what we'd really like, if it's a better financial opportunity. Problem is small percentages matter in elite sport and when all these small lost percentages are added up it means we end up with players who are as gifted but mentally weaker, or produce similar numbers but in a lesser league etc. Trust me when I say in the grand scheme of things there is not much difference in ability between being world class and being a Premier league footballer. If you one at a time put Kane and Richalisson(if fully fit) in the same non league team against the same opposition they'd get similar numbers. It's only when you get to the very top you'll see the real difference between the two. The smaller percentages matter the higher up the tree you climb, and we always seem willing to drop just a percent or two for a better deal or because it might pay off in the long run.

Think he’ll be in the building second half of the year but barring an injury crisis he won’t make a match day squad. Then after a pre season you would think he’s a likely candidate to get a loan to the belgian league with Westerlo. See how gets on there before deciding what to do the following year. Cheap but promising signing, not really worth thinking about with respect to first team for a while would be my expectation.

Isn't that more to do with Work Permit issues though? Prior to the introduction of ESC, this transfer wouldn't be able to happen but since it was introduced in 2023, we have signed Yang and Veliz.

We also tried in the past with players like Qu Bo and Deigo but they failed to get a WP.

Remember that lad we wanted to sign from Columbus Crew that couldn't get a permit? I feel like he did end up in the premier League.

Not from Columbus Crew but we were denied a WP for Bobby Convey, who ended up at Reading in the PL

TIL that we didn't sign Hulk due to finding out he wouldn't get a WP too.

Surely he isn't up to even being on our bench yet given the level hes been playing at? All due respect to Korean league but would better off with donley being recalled to be on our bench rather than him? Unless we're bringing him in early to look to assess what level he's at to see where we should loan him to

From the reports @Ghost Hardware has given us, if doesn’t sound like he’s anywhere near ready to play for us yet.

I’d have him train with our first team until the summer so he can adjust to life in England and our club. Then we can reassess in the summer and decide if he needs a loan.

Bringing him in early certainly makes sense in regards to getting him adjusted as early as possible and taking a look at him ahead of the window. The down side is he will be coming off a full season and if he’s joining us mid December that means he will only have a few weeks rest.

Given our injuries and likely quiet transfer window I wouldn’t be surprised if the hope is he can adapt swiftly and play some party in the second half of the season but I do feel that is somewhat optimistic. Even if he was still tearing up the league, which he hasn’t been for a month or two now, he’s had 1 season as a senior player that was in the K league. As a rough barometer look at Bergvall.

Obviously it would be great if he steps up his level after playing with better players (it isn’t beyond the realms) and getting him settled as quickly as possible benefits everyone but I won’t be expecting much from him this season regardless when he joins.

I suppose depending on the draw he might play a part in the early rounds of the FA cup.

Let's not put too much pressure on the lad. Just a winning goal at the Emirates on 15th Jan.
