I wonder how our Korean fans are feeling about this one.
The usual badly translated online comments suggests the usual mix of most who are happy, the slither who had a pre-existing, or recently developed, sincere support for the club and are chuffed another good Korean will be at the club when the day Sonny departs finally arrives and then there's the other sliver who think we're a wasteman club squandering the careers of their best talent under the slave-driver Levy.

That last group might unironically be the most Spurs out of all of them. 😆

Reading through Gangwon FC long statement :

i) His signing is the biggest fee for a player going directly from Kleague to Europe (which is like 4m€)
ii) Our 'sweetner' is getting their U18 players at Hotspur way in winter for training & development.
iii) Yang had his first semi pro contract signed only last December
iv) Then went on a winter tour to Turkey in Jan and in a game against Dynamo Moscow scored 1 & assisted 1
v) Yang signed his actual pro contract only on 18th June with a addon clause of 100m Won (56k£) if does his performance clause (which he has fulfilled I assume)

Club itself was formed in 2008 and not so big in Kleague terms. Its also in outskirts away from Seoul. Their club has only 3 to 4 non-Korean players.

Given he is still a high schooler from a outskirts city....with not much English knowledge, his cultural learning curve is going to be very steep.

So, its no brainer that he took the call to join Spurs with Sonny at the helm. Atleast Sonny did the hard yards in his early life being alone in Hamburg. Yang wont have that problem but he has got to learn fast if he can show his game.

I dont see fee being listed anywhere. But in their statement, selling club Gangwon FC say, fee is the highest for a player moving directly from KLeague to a European club. Current record is like 4m€ for a player to Feynoord back in 2002. K-league overall record is 5.5m€ to a Chinese club. So, given they didnt outright say biggest fee in Kleague...
I think we can say his fee is between 4 to 5.5m€ which seems nominal for his age & experience.
Peanuts in today’s world, honestly.

That seems really beneficial for both clubs.

Wondering what the Korea's youth setup's like, as he seems to be only with Gangwon's youth system 2 years ago.
So he's trained in his middle school before that? Or private academy?

From his wiki:

Club career

[edit]
In 2022, Yang joined Gangneung Jeil High School and started to play for the school's football club, known as an academy of Gangwon FC. Prior to the 2024 season, when he was just one year away from graduating, he promoted to the senior team.[3]

Maybe they send anyone under there books to that school. I read in on of the articles about him saying that he started the season well but around exam time his focussed obviously changed and his form dipped. Once the exams were over though him regained his form.

I figure he probably received less systematic training when comparing the u6 u8 u10, etc here...and to get to where he is at 18, in Korea, tells you something more about his raw talent.
Korea had other high profile young players but they were trained in Barca/aborad; my wishful thinking is that when he comes in, he might have a lot more room to grow.

Wishful thinking.

When he comes in January do you think he goes to our under 21’s, trains with the first team or do we try and find a loan somewhere?

I personally think they keep him around the first team and get him settled in to a new country. Then maybe assess next summer.

Yeah I hope he doesn't get loan out straight away.
We took out almost all the brightest attacking players from our current U18 and U21, think it will be a great start to bed him in from.

Honestly have no iead of where he's at, hope to get a glance tomorrow - but he certainly feels a first team buy though.

I'm sure Ange will take a good look at him. Not sure when he will link up with the squad. I guess a month off when his season ends and then join training. Ange will take a look for a month and decide whether to loan at the end of the January window or not.

I can't see he'd play for us if he hasn't trained with us.
Has anyone else noticed these odd dislikes that seem completely out of place when you read the post. It's always just one (in this case @Blanchflower04) and when you look at the member it's someone with no messages and no points. It happens frequently. Is this some sort of glitch?

I just assumed it was fast fingers or that the person is new so was unaware of how things worked.

I'd not noticed a pattern but it's the first time it's happened to me so I wasn't looking for it. You may be right.
