I know I'm being very very greedy but would have been awesome if it was like a 5 or 6 year deal. I'm certian it's the players side only going for 3 years. If it was down to Levy he would give him the Chelsea 8 year deal

I don't think we can sign him on a 5 year deal, the reason we waited one extra day for Bergvall to turn 18 (which meant he joined in the summer instead of January).

I'm sure we'll try and get him on a longer contract in a year's time.

If it's allowed we probably build in an option for further year.
As long as we give him game time there'll be a new contract waiting for him at 18 though.

Isn't this old news? He would've automatically gone onto a pro deal when turning 17 after getting him to sign a new deal last year.

Brilliant, although I really didn't see any risk in him leaving considering the game time he had this summer combined with how he has been building good relationships with our other young players.

Why would he choose to leave?

The deal was pre-agreed but can't sign it until he actually turns 17.

Nothing is certain until the contract is signed.

It's been a bit of a worry, as even if we have a deal agreed he can't be held to it before he turn 17 and actually is allowed to sign it. 5 days to go.

No i know that, but when it was pre-agreed surely you can't just turn around and not sign it? Otherwise what's the point in having an agreement in place?

I don't believe it's a gentleman's agreement or anything.

Edit: turns out this is the case, which is terrifying.

So it's simply a promise saying he'll agree to sign it when he's 17 and that's it?

I think the new bit of this news is the fact that we'd previously heard a deal was already agreed until 2026, but this would take it to 2027.

Him now having showed more with the first team it could also mean more wages.

Just to give everyone the jitters, pretty sure even if he signs the contract at 17 he can still void the contract whilst he is still a minor :)
Roll on 11th August 2025 and a new contract

I agree they need to be managed but not playing them or giving just 5/10 mins every so often does not benefit them. They need to play regular to develop years ago people like Rooney & Owen not forgetting the Man Utd kids played regular and became better players.
I think Rooney and Owen are prime examples of talented young players whose careers ended prematurely because they were thrown into the deep end too soon. A combination of lower expectations and better management of (reduced) playing time during their early seasons of senior football may well have extended both of their careers. Both went from making their senior debut to carrying the weight of expectations for their team (from fans, teammates and their manager), in the space of a few months, then fizzled out during what should have been their prime years.

Messi and Ronaldo were integrated into senior football at a slower pace, peaked at a higher level (so their development was not stunted by reduced senior playing time in their teen years) and are both seeming likely to continue playing into their 40s (Ronaldo is only 6 months off 40). Foden's development has been managed in a very similar way and his career is going pretty well.
