Will it be softly softly with Mikey or the Wayne Rooney approach? Rooney made his PL debut against us first game in 02/03 season at 16 years old, was in the match squad 33 times, started 14 and was brought on as sub 19 times and it wouldn't have been nine subs on the bench like now in those days.

I’ll be shocked if he is in the League match squad 14 times… particularly if we are still going to sign another attacking player.

Just find it fascinating how we are going to handle Mikey compared to other high level teenagers like Rooney, Bellingham & Foden etc, we still have to keep Mikey happy or who knows who might come knocking at the door offering untold wealth.

It depends if he is anywhere near the levels of Rooney/Bellingham/Foden

If he is, I guess we’ll find out very quickly….

Think the fact that B Dortmund and Man C already reported to be sniffing around gives us some idea.
Sniffing around = the square root of fuck all

To compare this lad to those 3 atm is complete nonsense - let’s at least wait a few weeks/months to see what he’s got playing with/against the big boys

Rooney was a force of nature. A fully grown man at 15yrs old.

Rather put Mikey on for last 20 mins, than Timo, if we are losing. He might just do something. Timo never will.
Timo is actually quite dangerous at attacking the line and pulling the ball back. With a more predatory striker in Solanke, his cut backs could yield a decent return. One thing Mikey doesnt seem to have is that ability to outpace and pull the ball back from a standing start. This is how we play, or at least how we have been playing.
I think Mikey will make the match squad fairly regularly but not at the expense of Timo

Generally, those who play regularly at such a young age dwindle sooner too.
There arent many who break though at an early age and go on to play until mid 30's at a high level

How does MM fair against similar age players in terms of pace.

I thought in the Bayern friendly he looked fairly modest in a straight line sprint.

Pace isn’t everything, but for an attacker it’s a huge asset.

Maybe. But I am not sure Moore can play the LW spot in Ange's system as effectively as Werner. I think that is why Moore has been used primarily on the right side during pre-season.

Also - if Son is injured after 20 minutes - then I think the correct sub is Werner.

So, from a bench stand point - when players are fit:

Solanke/Richarlison, Son/Werner will take up 2 spots.

Dragusin, Spence, Davies/LB will take up 3 spots

Austin/Forster will take up 1 spot.

Bissouma/Bentancur, Sarr/Bergvall will take up 2 spots

That leaves 1 spot open - and currently it would be one of Maddison/Kulusevski/Johnson.

If we sign another attacking player - that player is also in the mix. And Gray - he is almost certainly going to make the bench in every match he does not start given his versatility. We are up to 11 payers that should make the bench - but only have 9 spots, 8 for outfield players.

It's a numbers game, and Moore is going to have to beat out a senior player on the training pitch, or wait for injuries to get a spot on the match day roster. I do think he will likely be involved - I think we usually bring an extra player or 2 in case of a late injury.

I expect him to make the bench, assuming he progresses in training, for league cup and Europa matches.

Yes, I think it’s very unlikely he’ll even make the bench at the start of the season in the premier league.

but you’d expect it to be ‘normal‘ for Spurs to have about 5 players out at any one time due to injuries and suspensions and so I think he’ll make the bench a lot.

Yeah I know there are going to be a lot of people unhappy with the transfer window, but when you lay it out like that, we are going to struggle to accommodate any new signings unless of course they are nailed on Starters.
Mikey (as well as Devine, Lankshear, Donley etc) will all want minutes.
We have done a decent job this window of trimming the squad. But likely we will be looking to do the same in January as it becomes clearer who is up to it.

I'm uncomfortable with calling him a "breakout star." The article even goes so far as to state expectations of starting a "handful" of Premier League games.

I'm as excited as the next supporter about Mikey Moore, but if he starts a PL game this season, I'll be floored - either something has gone very wrong or Moore has really really amazed.

Yeah agree. There was an article on the BBC last month comparing him to Harry Kane, seeing how their goals etc at youth level match up and all that.

First off, he’s not a striker like Kane so that’s pointless and also let’s not put that much weight on the shoulders of a (then) 16 year old!

Probably start for some Europa games. Have you seen some of the teams we might play.

Agreed. Shoulders need development (serious joke).
