Some of his deficiencies exposed at times today.
They clearly targeted him as the player to press in our back line as they stood off our other players but used him as the trigger to press and it worked.

Of course he's still young but he was charging out of control at times. Far too frantic and a long way off what Vertonghen brought to us. I'm sure he'll learn and it wasn't just him who struggled. I do feel for the defenders though because it feels like we don't work at all on defending as a team. Everything seems to be drilled to press forward and I think that's why he comes charging out to win balls. You don't get everything your own way in this league so sometimes need spells where you have to compose yourself and stay organised with discipline. The biggest issue for VdV though is Romero is not leading at the back and he's the experienced one.
Vertonghen was the same under Sherwood and he was 26 at the time.

It's a regular occurence because he isn't good on the ball.
That's ok, no one is perfect and his other attributes far outweigh this weakness.
He has world-class potential. Just hope he stays injury-free and with the right attitude. So far the signs are good.

We are more interested in not conceding possession than actually do what's the sensible option and launch it up the park or into the stand. Yup sloppy pass by Romero but if in doubt put it out. Can't score from row z

I don't think the ball from Romero did him any favours being floated and bouncing, but he should've done better and we paid the price for it.

It was in the air so long their keeper could have run upfield and intercepted it

It wasn't just the goal he was poor for, Mateta bullied him all game and given Saliba's red card for Arsenal the weekend before I was a bit surprised Micky wasn't sent off as well.

he had more than enough time to deal with that. The ball didn't put him under that much pressure.
