It’s not just winning things, it’s winning major trophies and competing at the top of the table.

When we won the league cup, we were a midtable team.

Under Poch we had that period where most of our starting 11 could get in any team in the world. We only lost Walker from that group in that period (and even that sounds complicated tbh).

If we compete at the top end of the table and actually get over the line and win an FA Cup, Europa League or ideally the league then things would change for us imo. It would be very difficult to sign one of our players, providing we also increase our wage bill along the way.
play like we did Sunday regularly and no one will even have any thoughts of leaving. Ange's style of football in full flow...united were shit but we never let them not be.

But if you're taking it at that level then you could also say that none of Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea, Utd, City have had that either
Absolutely. Utd lost Ronaldo to Real Madrid when they were still top dogs.

Pretty much every club is at risk of losing top stars to bigger clubs. But the interest has to be there.

See the quickest Premier League players of 2024/25 so far and the top 10 fastest ever

Micky van de Ven set the fastest speed of any Premier League player so far this season in Tottenham Hotspur's 3-0 win at Manchester United on Sunday.
But it wasn't with the run you're thinking of.
While Van de Ven sprinted through the Man Utd midfield and defence to produce an incredible assist for Brennan Johnson, that run wasn't the fastest speed he was recorded at during the match.
He went quicker when tracking back to tackle Alejandro Garnacho in first-half stoppage time, registering a top speed of 37.12 km/h.

It was the fastest speed recorded by a player this season, and by some distance, over one km/h quicker than Nottingham Forest winger Anthony Elanga in second place. Erling Haaland, this season's top scorer, ranks third.

Van de Ven dominates all-time ranking

Van de Ven's fastest sprint at Old Trafford was the fourth-fastest recorded in the Premier League since such data started to be collected in 2020/21.
Remarkably, the 23-year-old is responsible for three of the four top speeds recorded by players in that time, including the fastest ever, which he set against Brentford in January 2024.

Manchester City right-back Kyle Walker is the only player who can rival him.

People forget that he is still young and only in his first few seasons as a starting CB. He has been brilliant for us but you will still get games like this - remember him last season vs Newcastle when he fell to pieces. He will learn from it.

Neither of our CDs covered themselves in glory yesterday. but they weren't alone in that.
Let's be honest entire back 4 had a mare in the second half. First goal comes from a ball played in behind Porro who doesn't react, and then a major error by Udogie. Second goal again comes from Porro's side, perhaps he could have closed him down better, and then VDV and Udogie get turned by Rutter. Third goal Udogie again clearly doesn't do well enough, and then Porro and more so Romero both let Wellbeck have a free-header.

As you say, the CB's weren't great but our full-backs hardly showed a master-class in defending.

Yep, I think this is the healthiest way to look at this.

Spot on. That goes for most of the team tbh. People are quick to call for youngsters to be played, but seem just as quick to slate them when they have a bad game. It happens.

Of course he's still young but he was charging out of control at times. Far too frantic and a long way off what Vertonghen brought to us. I'm sure he'll learn and it wasn't just him who struggled. I do feel for the defenders though because it feels like we don't work at all on defending as a team. Everything seems to be drilled to press forward and I think that's why he comes charging out to win balls. You don't get everything your own way in this league so sometimes need spells where you have to compose yourself and stay organised with discipline. The biggest issue for VdV though is Romero is not leading at the back and he's the experienced one.
