His best performance for us thus far. Defended excellently. The battle between him and Aurier for the right back position is going to be intense this season if they keep performing at the level they have been.

While I think that Aurier has been stronger going forward, Doherty has been more assuring aerially so I think he is more suited to start against Burnley IMO. He also looked to be much more fit tonight than he did against Everton.

You see the free kick aurier gave away leading to that 3rd West Ham goal ? Pathetic !

Seemed a bit tentative to pass to Bale when it appeared he had his man beat. That said o could see some chemistry building there for the future.

Also saw what made him so good at Wolves where he was making those outside to in runs where the winger was finding him in space. Unfortunately none of his passes found a target but he got into several dangerous areas yesterday and that bodes well for the future.

Would also add he looked very assured defensively and I’m not at all worried about the whole “he can only play in a back 3” thing that was going around when we signed him.

Wasn’t a foul imo that was on the ref
I would agree with that, but in that situation, you don't get close enough to give the player a chance to collapse and the referee to make a decision. He was headed away from goal...keep close, but no need to put a challenge in! Reguilon did the same today. Hopefully it's something Mourinho points out and coaches out of our players: DON'T GIVE OPPORTUNITIES FOR FREES IN OUR OWN THIRD!

We will concede far more goals from not making those challenges than from any free kicks given as a result of them.

Maybe its my memory of it I thought aurier was at the ball already and snodgrass stepped across him and then fell forward I dont think there is much serge could of done in all fairness to him.

I didn't notice him yesterday much. That's good for a defender. Opposite of the Aurier who makes 2-3 mistakes every match.
That is an insanely unfair statement considering Aurier has been playing PL recently (and for the most part quite capably), and Doherty was playing against really poor opposition last night.

It’s just nice to have strong competition for right back now.

Last season was ridiculous letting Trippier go with seemingly no desire to use KWP as competitio.

Aurier has been very good for quite a while under Jose now. But MD is also a top player so we have two good options who will keep pushing each other to improve which is great.

Unfortunately no matter how well he plays your gonna get the same old narrative of 2-3 mistakes a game, which is obviously not true because he's currently first choice RB with mourinho.

I actually can’t remember the last time he made a mistake tbh, he’s been near flawless for a while now tbh so credit to him and to Jose. MD is a different type of player, a bit taller and makes later runs but Aurier is stronger and faster and that goal against man.u was class.

Lot of potential with him and Gareth down the right. I think those two make a much better partnership than Bale/Aurier, both excel at angles and interplay in the final 3rd and can look to cut in.

him and bale linked up nicely.

Was a little concerned with Bale style and the way Doherty plays which is to get inside that box as much as possible in a very unique way for a fullback but fair play to them, looks like they've struck up a friendship on the training pitch and are working well together.
