Yeah unlucky for him but thats football.

He'll not be short of opportunities this year.

Not heard Ange comment on a player's training session like this very often. Lucas is the kind of kid that will show his disappointments (team and individual) but channel it for fuel.

"It’s always about how you respond to those things, how you grow from those things. He was training this morning - and he was flying - so he’s all good."

Fantastic. Love this kid. Don't quite know how Sarr has seemingly got back in front of him. Perhaps he hasn't, it was just a one off decision.

I think Sarr is clearly ahead of Bergvall at the moment, particularly in terms of experience. We have to remember that Bergvall basically didn't start senior games until about a year ago. He has enormous potential but needs to work on his decision making sometimes. It's a pity he didn't get much chance to build that experience on Thursday but he'll get another chance in the next EL game.

Incredibly talented but isn’t a creative 10 for me. Need’s to play alongside a Maddison or Kulu in order to get the best out of him. Allow him to play his game, move the ball through the lines, find the dangerous gaps etc without being relied upon to be the creative fulcrum.
Agree with this. It’s fine our midfield in 2 years will be gray bergvall moore ;)

It does make me chuckle how quick people are to throw players on the scrap heap for the fresh new thing. Of course Sarr is ahead of Bergvall, he’s got more experience and has worked his bollocks off for the team time and time again.
Bergvall on the other hand is a completely untested youngster.

Reminds me of this.

and Sarr doesn't? An inferior player. Anyway, it'll play out in Bergvall's favour.

Lucas grew up a United fan, also trained with them when he was 16 before he decided it was best to stay in Sweden at the time.

Must have been quite the feeling to deliver a (brilliantly taken) corner with his first touch at Old Trafford and share in the jubilant scenes, after his personal disappointment on Thursday.

I think he was guilty of overplaying it tonight. Got tackled a few times trying to be clever and there was that impossible reverse pass he attempted to Mikey when the simple pass was the correct one to make.

But he's young and learning and this is all part of the journey.

I kinda agree with you, but today was the perfect opportunity to make a name for himself - United on their knees, and if that shot or the pass to Mikey came off then......well, that is where the glory is.....and that, my friend, is why I support Spurs! :chicken: 👩‍🍳

Sarr is a bit more defensive so maybe Ange just wanted to shore things up a little?

I don't think he did anything "wrong" He's just a very talented young player with very limited time to play so when he does get minutes, naturally he wants to try and make a difference and make things happen and i'm all for that. Whats the point in coming on in the 77th minute and playing safe football?

The need to try and do something was also brought on because he didn't get to show anything Thursday, it's just one of those things, he'll settle soon enough with more minutes and game time and naturally play his football, no need to worry about this guy, he'll be a very good player.

I agree with you regarding his overall play.

However I would never tell a player they were wrong to do that reverse pass, in fact, I'd encourage it. He will try it more and execute it
....and when he does it'll increase the chances of a goal.

I don't think he's ready for the PL yet. Decision-making not up to standard, passing was over-complicated. Thus losing the 5v4/4v3 chances.

Having said that this was a good learning opportunity for him. Now he can work with the coaches to address the weaknesses.

He's trying too much, he needs to calm down. He has everything to be world class. Needs minutes, should (continue to) start the europa games and just be a bit calmer.

I'm actually pleased he's being seen as an AM, personally I think he'll be perfect competition for Sarr/Kulusevski (given time) but for now he works as a Maddison cover.

I am absolutely convinced he'll be a star, how long that takes is up to him. The same with Mikey Moore, though I feel his (Moores) impact will be quicker.

We have 3 very special youngsters here (including Gray) none are ready to start in the PL yet with the exception imo of Moore, who should be thrown in now.

He did overplay when he came on, probably in part some frustration carried over from Thursday, but he'll relax into his role soon enough.

When Eriksen came on for united straight onto the corner that he hit right at the first man it was like some sort of ptsd having flashbacks to the 100 times i'd seen that before, but glad to see it once more this time against us (and again from a freekick a few mins later).

Bergvall then happens to get subbed on in the exact same situation stepping straight onto a corner and nailed it. Had to laugh really.

Several beautifully weighted passes. Immensely talent footballer. Just needs game time to reach his potential.

Just needs to settle a little, lack of game time and the obvious frustration from Thursday!

The games come thick and fast, he will have his opportunity on Thursday again.
