Love this guy. If we play him at 10 he can help lead the press. Hes clever, can second guess what the opponent might do, nick it or steam in. But he can also then play a killer pass. I like he's keeping it shorter and simpler, listening to Ange. The videos of last season showed him hitting Hollywood diagonals.

It's great we can hook Maddison on 65 and have this kid do a bit of everything when he comes on. He can replace Sarr's energy as well once he's run his race.

After six months max Sarr won't be a starter.

I'm not so sure about that, Sarr was arguably our best midfielder last season and I think a lot of people forget he's only 21 as well. He has world class potential imo, as does Bergvall obviously.

I have no clue what our midfield will be to start the season or what it will evolve into but at least whoever is starting will have to earn their place.

Theyre different though.

Sarr is an extremely energrtic player works hard and has some genuine quality.

Bergval is mobile, lots of stamina but has more vision and understanding in terms of the attacking 'picture"

Both have their roles within the squad, but Bergvall is definitely the superior footballer and for me, with Gray, they'll become regular first picks for the long term.

Yeah agree, I mean I could see all three being regular starters. Like you say I don't necessarily see Sarr and Bergvall as direct competitors for one position.

Bergvall could play the ten role, but I see him as an 8 long term.

Is anyone clearer what his best position is ?
I know back in the day we just had centre mids but recently we have registas, "6s", "10S" and "8s" but is he more deeper lying or does he wish to play further forward ?

Basically he’s a really good all round midfielder. Ange will trust him to play intelligently and to instructions as required.

My money is on Kulusevski starting in CM, just not sure if it's with or instead of Maddison.

I would definitely have Bergvall in there thought.
My money is on kulu on the right over Johnson.

Biss, bergvall and maddison right through the middle.

Son left, solanke CF.

I think bergvall has done enough to creep into thr starting 11.

There’s an awful lot of judgement of players in here…as if who they are in this minute is fixed and cemented.

Some players you least expect will rise to new heights with the extra challenge for positions in the squad.

Some players will pick up a niggle…keep playing and perform sub-optimally.

Some players will find they play better in partnership with another player and exceed expectations.

Some players now know what Ange expects and will become more confident within the system.

Some players will get an early season goal and start flying off the back of it.

And some players will pick up a poor headline in the papers and succumb to the scrutinisation.

All I’m saying is that it’s a long season with many games.
All these players have the capacity to perform at extraordinary levels on their day.
And it’s Ange’s job to keep them fit, keep them growing, keep them motivated and get them winning together, consistently.

All players go through dips and peaks. This season will be no different.
That’s why the overall mood of both fans and the squad are vital to the success we all crave.

Let’s embrace them all. They are all highly capable. Let’s bring out the best in everyone of them.

Sarr I think offers us that ball carrying energy, moving the ball quickly up the pitch at his feet.

Bergvall offers us that nuanced passing and better final third penetration but is unproven (so far) in the Prem.

Great to have both options who can give us different options for different opposition and scenarios, which we lacked last season.

Lat season, even with our apparent desire to press high, we never really made full use of our 5 subs. Hopefully Ange will be more comfortable withe the ability on the bench, and we can swap out tired legs earlier and more often, without losing our shape. If pre-season has taught us anything it's that the kids are as bought in to Ange's style as any of the seniors, so I expect to see full use of the squad in the Prem, not just kids in the cups.

On Bergvall's position, I think medium-long term he's a Modric or Kroos. A metronome in the middle with oodles of class and a wide skill-set. An all-the-time-in-the-world player.

But I think in the short term developmental phase, we'll see him in several midfield roles, but quite often more advanced than Modric, in that AM-#10-Odegaard/Maddison slot.

And who’s to say that after a few months training together Sarr starts offering us the nuanced passing and Bergvall offers us consistent ball carrying energy.

These players are not fixed. They are full of potential and capable of excelling in all areas if managed well.

I think Leicester will set up quite deep so I’d go for Maddison and Bergvall with Bentancur behind them. Putting Bissouma there with two number 10s in front is kamikaze tactics.

If you knew nothing about our players and were watching our preseason games as a complete outsider you’d say Bergvall was one of our key players and surely a starter. I actually thought Maddison had a few nice moments yesterday and will probably start against Leicester but he’s going to have a hard time keeping his spot. Also think Sarr hasn’t quite been at his best yet and Lucas also offers similar industry and ability to win the ball off an opponent. It’ll be interesting to see how it all shakes out but I think Lucas is going to be very involved all season.

we spent nearly £100m on Maddison and Johnson last season and as things stand neither of them should be in the starting XI. Infact most people can see that we need to spend another £50m to fix the RW position which doesn’t say much for Johnson. Maybe our recruitment process isn’t as good as we thought.

To suggest that Johnson and Maddison are already failures is ludicrous particularly considering they both contributed a lot at various points last season.

Because we want competition for them doesn't mean we want to drop them completely.
