I’d certainly give him a start against Bayern next weekend and see how he gets on.

Leicester will be a very different game. Steve Cooper will be packing the defence and grinding out results.

Which to be honest is when you want a midfielder who can carry the ball quickly.

More important against a packed defence to have someone that can move the ball quickly than move with the ball quickly...

Although Bergvall appears to be capable of both.

This is what we want.. fearless, technical players who want to progress play. build the team around him

Just play him. Constantly wants the ball, looks capable of picking a pass or making a run. Comfortable with the ball and backs himself to do what he has in his mind. The kind of confidence I wanna see in our midfield which has been missing after the first 10 games of last season.

He will of course have tougher games and make mistakes, but we already live on the edge the way we play.

Just call him Walter White and let him cook.

We have a gem on our hands. For most of the time he was on today, he actually looked like the best player on the pitch on either side.

Exactly what we needed in midfield last season after Maddison fell off a cliff.

He's been excellent, but I would imagine whatever happens next week vs Bayern we see Madders start vs Leicester, if for no other reason than he's a vice captain and it might be something that can find the form in him, to do the business against the club he left. After that though, and if he doesn't perform, anyone's game imo. Very happy to have a player so young look so close to being in contention.

Start Lucas as the 8 with Madders further forward

Also think when you consider who he was battling with in midfield today (Palhinha, Laimer, Goretzka) it’s hard to imagine him coming up against a more formidable trio from a physical perspective. It was a truly impressive performance.

If he keeps this up in the regular season he'll have cemented himself as a probable starter by next season, if not by the end of this one.

Young players can of course often have big ups and downs so I must remind myself to remain patient. It's a matter of time though, his quality is already apparent.

At the moment it's less a question of whether to start him and more what position
Agreed, his pre season form has put him right in the mix. We have looked better with him on

When Bergvall and Bissouma came on 2nd half we looked far better against Bayern.

He is a box to box midfielder. He can transport the ball forward with speed, covering a lot of ground and is not afraid to play the ball forward. We need that in our central midfield.

He's not a number 10 (things can change). But I agree with you, he can improve around the box.
Thanks, that's what I see, too.

His aggression means he'll get a yellow or too as others have pointed out. Does he then typically play within himself, or have you seen the red mist come down resulting in red or should have had a red? Cheers.
