I think Lucas progression has been the stand out this year, Archie Gray looked cool when he started and has just settled so well wherever we've asked him to play but at the start of the season Lucas looked like a young boy and always seemed to defer to a senior player. Since then he's just steadily got better and better, there wasn't a game when he was suddenly the player we saw last night, we've been privileged to witness a steady game by game settling into the squad, a growing confidence and the final owning his place in the team.
Yes he's going to get even better but I honestly don't recall ever seeing that in real time quite so clearly before.
Yeah, that's the thing that I've been saying, he literally improves with every game he plays.
He started off trying a bit too hard, maybe guilty of over-playing at times but he's settled into the game impressively as he's gone on.

Him and Gray just have everything to make the perfect midfield partnership.

Yeah it has been astounding really. Gray, although only 18, has been playing senior football in a good standard of a league already for a year so he came in ahead of Bergvall in terms of composure and experience. Gray is already a bloody good player and was ready for starts. Bergvall looked a bit shaky, particularly in the game in Turkey he looked a bit out of his depth. Every single game he has played though since then he has grown a little bit more and his improvement has been quite amazing. If he can continue to improve at this rate he will be a regular starter in no time and one of our best players. Archie, to me, is already there.

He does need to work on his booking mind, feel like he’s picking up quite a few.

That’ll all come with experience though.

I'm sure somewhere in all this progression of the youngsters there will be some praise for Ange and his staff on how they have handled them.
As he said after victory its not just about the here and now, but also the future.

Aggressive, all action, already boiling piss, making a difference in big games, I wonder if he could become our Roy Keane.

That was the comparison I made to my mate the other day. More skilled because it's a different era, but he is a real combative midfielder capable of doing it all.

Not sure I get the comparison to Keane here. Bergvall is technically on a different level.

To add to this, go ~6 seconds earlier and see where he was coming from to get to Alisson. Didn't know he had that pace, 3rd gear in him. I was thinking as he started sprinting forward "brother relax" lol... If only Porro had finished that chance, Bergvall's efforts would have been properly rewarded. So glad it was him who scored in the end.
Having just watched it again, Porro should have actually passed it straight back to Lucas in the first place rather than taking the first shot, as he had the defender and Alisson in front of him and Lucas would have had pretty much an open goal.

There was plenty in his performances in Sweden, and in pre-season, for the only surprise to be that it took this long for everyone to jump on the bandwagon.

He's still gonna put in the odd stinker, and see a few reds, but when I saw him play preseason he stood out physically, skillfully, and in terms of desire and responsibility.

I definitely see Modric as being the kind of player Bergvall should be looking to emulate: tenacious, bridges the gap between defence and attack, highly consistent, very good quality of passing, creates space for himself out of nowhere, pops up with the occasional (crucial) goal.
