I wish he would concentrate on fundamental skills. That training video of he and Mikey basically showing off was not what’s needed. He needs to get a little more grounded and I’m sure it’ll come.

Bit of a dear in the headlights moment for a young player. He's obviously not adapting as quickly as Gray but to be expected somewhat moving not just team but country etc.

All these players will go through ups and downs and need patience. Nature of youth innit.

Grey is further on in his development because hes had a full season of championship football under his belt, and even though its obvious hes still learning game by game, and he might make little mistakes now and again, he never looks lost out on the pitch, and you know he is going to positivley contribute to the game one way or another, and thats playing out of position.

I mentioned on the previous few pages about the disrespect the championship loan idea got from posters on here, but anyone who has regularly watched it knows how important the league can be for these kinds of players development because it is so varied in how teams play, and contains much better players than people think.

Absolutely need to loan him to championship / Europe this winter. Needs games against adults and we simply can’t afford to play him right now. Great talent, just needs a year or two of seasoning against adults.

Have to bring in another seasoned adult in the midfield to take that spot. Sarr and Deki can’t play every minute.

There is a simple rule to follow with young players at Spurs. If the consensus among our fans is that they shouldn't go on loan, they 100% should be out on loan.

I just think when you zoom out he's still a kid only what, about four months in to living in a new country and settling into a league that is way above what he is used to. He's shown flashes, wants to overly impress, and he's also mistakes - all normal when looking at the whole situation. Also, as others have mentioned, yes he could get more game time elsewhere, but I still think I would personally keep him around all season to let him settle in. If a loan is decided for next season, totally fine.

Midfield is the one area we're quite deep in at the moment. If you're looking at the options, there is Maddison, Bentancur, Sarr, Bissouma already fighting for three spots then him and Archie, who has only been getting sniffs at outside back currently. Not everything has to be decided today, and let's keep in mind that Bentancur and Bissouma will each have one year left on their deals after the season. The club will have to make more of a decision then, but let's just have some patience and see how it goes this season.

Such a ridiculous thing to judge whether a player is 'grounded' or not on.

The championship is regularly rated higher than many top tiers in Europe by the various nerd sites that do that sort of thing. It's certainly well above the Swedish top division as an example.

I think everyone can agree on that. We can’t afford for him to keep coming up short in matches though, and it won’t be good for him to keep getting booked either.

Ideally he should get a loan, but that probably means we have to get another player in. Tricky to do in January, especially if we’re also planning on getting Cardoso in summer.

I'm not sure a loan is a good idea because it's worth remembering that his season started in March and he hasn't had any proper break since last winter. If he'd stayed in Sweden he'd be at the end of his season and in need of rest.

Now despite not starting much for us all the new impressions and connections he has had to make, plus getting used to a more intense training regime and playing with better players, that will have taken a lot out of him as well. For my part I think it might be just as sensible to wrap him up in cotton wool over the spring and see what he can do after a proper summer off.

When people say he should get a loan to a championship side do they think he'll get more playing time than if he stays here? Really? Think again.
He stays and he plays.

Realistically where are any loan options coming from? The top ten or so from the Championship will be going well and have a relatively settled and established teams. Would he get the minutes for the loan to be of any benefit to him or Spurs? Probably not, as they won’t want to develop a player that belongs to another team in short term. It has taken Phillips and Scarlett a while to batter their way into their respective championship teams despite their talent compared to their host clubs.
This realistically leaves the bottom half teams many of whom would not be a stylistic fit for him or Spurs and still no guarantee of games. It would take a brave manager of a struggling team to rely upon a youngster to drag their team to safety.
I think Bergvall is better off staying and developing his trade here. There will still be minutes available and he can learn copious amounts from training with the senior squad.

Some people were putting way to much pressure on him before he even arrived at the club.

Some of the same people are now writing him off because he isn't setting things on fire already.

He's a talented kid with a lot of learning to do and I think he's in really good hands with Ange.

Just need to give the kid some breathing space and let him grow into the game. 🙏😎

I agree but I would put Devine above Bergvall at present because he has had two seasons with good loans and lots of playing time. Further he looks stronger than Lucas.

He’s lacking that match sharpness and probably trying a bit too hard to impress at the minute. He’ll be fine I’m sure, but with the youngsters there will be many a bump in the road. It was a tough environment for all to play in that hostile atmosphere but it’ll serve him well in the future no doubt.

He’s still a kid at the end of the day and better judged playing in a much stronger starting 11.

I think he's struggling with the pace of things at the moment, but then that should be expected given the level he's come from. I do think there will come a point where he will be best served with a loan, but I don't think that's this January.

To me he has had very good moments in games, but he is coming in from a league where he looked like a man against boys.

And the harsh reality is that he is still a boy, he has had spells in games where he was either trying too hard or trying to be calm, where he has tried too much Hollywood stuff and tried to keep it simple and none of those approaches have really worked for him.

He seems to be in his own mind a bit when he gets chances now, and while i would love to see him come good here/now i wouldn't see a loan (at a higher level than he has played before) as a bad thing just to get games and confidence.

I still have very high hopes for Lucas. (y)

As we are playing every midweek he is needed. Different if we weren’t in Europe as there wouldn’t be enough opportunities for him (and other young players) to get game time.

Think the Bergvall "is not ready" talk has been somewhat over the top after Thursday.

As a team, we've been a great home team and an awful away team this season.

Bergvall has got one start at home (that lasted more than 15 min).

In that game he won a penalty, created two brilliant chances (e.g. outside the boot to Werner 1v1) and was in WhoScored's team of the week.
