Loaning him out would be folly. Most importantly he will be called on because we will get injuries and suspensions in midfield, and those currently preferred can't play every minute of every game.

I'd love to see him v City, and Gala, huge tests in different ways.
Probably correct. I’d say it makes sense to keep him in the squad, but…

In a scenario where we’re out of all domestic cups, and we’re at a stage in the europa where we can less afford to play the kids, I can see some sense in loaning him to the right club.

like I say: I’d keep him. But it’s not the crazy idea some are making out

He’s getting the number of minutes an 18 year old should be getting. There’s a reason the likes of Owen, Rooney etc had to end their careers early and Ange was effectively saying this about Mikey in yesterday’s press conference.

You have to manage them carefully. It’s why I was saying to anyone who’d listen last season that I preferred the Europa League for us this season, it’s the perfect competition to give these guys meaningful football.

As someone else has said, Bergvall has played a lot of senior football for someone so young. Managing his minutes at this stage is vitally important. A loan wouldn’t help him.

I can see him and Gray being our 6 and 8 in the future. Both look like really amazing prospects.

Thought Thursday was his best game for us, he didn’t look like he was trying too hard to impress and force things, which had been the case in previous appearances.

A couple of miss placed passes aside a good performance, moved the ball well, and was really impressed with how well he closed the space and got so many tackles in.
You could see he had the vision for some more spectacular passing moves but the execution wasn’t quite there, hopefully that will come. I wouldn’t consider loaning him out at the moment, he’s getting game time and improving game to game. I might have missed it but is there still a chance bents could be suspended for a bunch of games? If so he will see even more minutes in the league.

The only thing he’s missing is intensity. Tends to wander around a bit but his technique is out of this world. Once that side of his game develops (and it will), he’ll be unplayable.

Would we have to loan him before the end of the January window? If so I can't see your scenario coming true. We'd have to lose in FAC3 (knowing our luck we'll draw City in that as well). The EL group stages finish then I think.

We're highly likely to still be in 3 comps.

Besides, I'd say we're currently an injury to Kulu away from a,lack of creativity- Madders has been hit and miss since his return from injury and is injury prone himself. Lucas will be needed.

No it’s an absolutely stupid idea as he is playing mins for us in the PL and it would just be weakening us as the season hits crunch time. It’s a daft suggestion. Moore, Bergvall and Gray have to stay and be part of the first team squad hopefully looking to win things and get into the CL.

The logic you and others have outlined applies to Lankshear who isn’t getting the minutes.

He's been given increasing minutes in the EL, and he's made 5 appearances in the PL. His last PL appearance was 13 mins or so against Man U.
There's clearly a strategy to how Bergvall is being integrated into the side. If he was an unused sub for every PL game, or even if he were only getting a couple of mins per appearance, a loan might make sense. There's clearly a method here, though, and a loan is not part of that.

This 'debate' just feels silly. Imagine Barça sending a young Xavi or Iniesta out on loan because there was a worry that they couldn't handle a cold night in Estoque del Trento

Would like to see him get more mins in the league, especially in games like today, where we desperately lacked creativity.

Hindsight is a beautiful thing but I think him instead of Richarlison would have been the better sub yesterday, and then Richy on later on if we were still chasing.

I love the guy, but as soon as we were relying on Solanke for creativity we knew it was game over.

Derby bought a goalkeeper from Djurgarden in the summer and had this to say about the experience.

I can tell you from just following the Swedish league, that he is a very special character, albeit a successful one.

I guess we wanted to get Lucas under Barcelonas noses enough to put up with it, or maybe there was more common ground to be found 🙃

I disagree, when I've seen him he's given me real Lamela vibes. Loves an aggy tackle and pressing.

Good technique and shimmyness but passing and decision making can be hit and miss, and seems to run out of gas around 60.

All things you'd expect an 18 year old to get better at though.

Think after he plays the full 90 for the remaining 5 europa game he needs a loan ideally to a low prem side or a promotion chasing championship side but with the obvious caveat he has to start

I think we all thought he would play a bit more and he prob thought the same but right now he just isn't ready

Oh great…. It’s a week ago again. This will be this thread for the next 12 months.

“I think he should go on loan, for these reasons”

“no, I think he should stay here, for these reasons”

Let’s trust our management team to manage the player they brought in, knowing that he would get selective minutes. If they decide a loan, fair enough.

I don't see how a loan would benefit him right now - he is only 18 and no team in the premier league and probably in championship is likely to be willing to play him regularly anyway. He is much better off staying here, training with the first team and building up his experience in the EL games.

No apology needed.

it’s just, have a read of the last 2 pages of the thread. It’s literally like all the replies to your comment have already been made.
