He had far better success in the final third and wasn’t anywhere near as error prone in defence. He had a bad season in his last year, but he still largely kept Aurier out of the side, Trippier at his worst is better than Aurier at his best. Aurier has improved under Jose, but overall he’s been an awful signing.

Tripps at his worst is better than Aurier at his best. ????

What a load of old bollox. Tripps at his worst was fucking horrendous

Messi also identified Trippier as our weak link at Wembley. Was basically hitting no look cross field passes in behind him all game because he knew he'd be out of position and unable to recover.

Wasn't he carrying an injury for most of the season which the club tried to manage as opposed to let him have surgery to correct it.
that would have influenced his performance.

Yep, Aurier was that bad Poch wanted an injured Trippier in ahead of him. That should tell people something.

I think we should have sold him after the World Cup or kept him for at least one more season. He wasn't so bad in 17/18.

Something tells me that his groin/thighs injury made him look way worse than he actually was.

The way he also speaks about the move makes me wonder if he really wanted to leave. I think he really liked to stay with us and felt misplaced or betrayed somehow.

I think we could have kept him. But if he stayed he would have been scapegoated so bad, and the offer was good and we wanted more funds.

I think the money was important, and it wasn't a case of who's better but more of a case of who would have put us in a stronger position. For me it was clear that Poch saw Foyth as a RB for this season, and I think it could have worked. But he got injured and Jose doesn't trust him.

Honestly there were only so many more aeroplane marshalling and match altering cockups I could take from him towards the end.

Frankly that we got the position of him or Aurier was madness in of itself, I could've just about stomached him still being a squad player and never signing Aurier but choosing between which you'd have in your starting lineup at that stage would have been like choosing which foot I'd like to be shot in first and would I prefer lemon or lime juice squeezed into the wound?

I tend to have my doubts if he'd have been okay dropping back to the bench having been first choice for so long but may be I'm being unkind.

That oppositions have actively targeted our full backs for the last 3/4 years should speak loudly. That lately it's been predominantly RB should again send the klaxons off.

Let's not pretend the other flank was outstanding either (wrong thread I know)

Between scouting players, deciding on a player, to actually signing players our player recruitment policy at times didn't seem to know if they'd been shot, fucked, powder-burned or snake-bit. (to borrow and take liberties with a quote)

Just an opinion.

Once a player fell out with Poch that was it, rightly or wrongly, they were out. Very stubborn from a manager to have that mindset.

Cast your minds back:

Felt like he was suited to playing at RWB next to a three-man defence, particularly when he had fast players around to cover for him. That's why he did well in 17/18 and then in the 2018 World Cup (with Walker playing as the right-sided CB to cover him), but struggled badly when we switched to a flat four man defence and moved him back to RB.

I was very critical of him in his last season - fucking finger pointer but what he has said is correct in my view. I love Dembele, my fave player ever he was just an exquisite footballer unfortunately injuries played a part - i do wonder what would have happened if he was there particularly for the final.

i thought he asked to leave as he thought he couldn't cope with the intensity of PL anymore?
