From the FA statement, here are the rules he broke:

Rule E8(1)(a): a participant shall not bet, either directly or indirectly, or instruct, permit, cause or enable any person to bet on – (i) the result, progress, conduct or any other aspect of, or occurrence in or in connection with, a football match or competition; or (ii) any other matter concerning or related to football anywhere in the world, including, for example and without limitation, the transfer of players, employment of managers, team selection or disciplinary matters

Rule E8(1)(b): where a participant provides to any other person any information relating to football which the participant has obtained by virtue of his or her position within the game and which is not publicly available at that time, the participant shall be in breach of this Rule where any of that information is used by that other person for, or in relation to, betting

So it seems simply him telling a friend or partner that he's likely to make a transfer is enough for him to be charged if they place a bet on it.

Seems a harsh rule, would love to hear the outcome and thought process behind it.

Oh i agree its ridiculously harsh especially as there are so many moving parts and people that would know of his pending transfer. Anyone connected at his agency or even his estate agent would have an idea hes defo off etc. However if its true he told a whatsapp group then hes an idiot. However whoever shopped him is even more of a twat.

I thought I read the bookies raised a question once a number of bets on him moving to Spain surfaced rather it being him getting shopped. If he actively told a group of friends then my defence of his position will lessen.

Will wait for the outcome now as I need more info before I can make anymore of a judgment.

He does it so much, it shows in a way he is trying to hard to get himself out of a bad light, he played far better for England than us due to International game is much slower, less frantic than the PL, thats where he really shone if im honest, he was ok for us, of course better than aurier but thats not hard even after 12 hour bender the night before, Spanish league suits him better as again its slower than PL, less frantic and less likely to get caught out DEF. Only thing i cant understand about his transfer was during the inflation of the market pre-covid how he was only 20M???? surely 40M in the pre covid inflation market plus being Eng International too, just saying

If we sold him right after the world cup maybe, but he was so bad last season that was all he was worth.

Absolutely. He had a piss poor season

I'm in 2 minds on it, he obviously had a good world cup but I do think the standard of the opposition in the games he did well in was pretty poor, I always felt Poch when he had Walker/Trippier was excellent at knowing what opposition Trippier would be effective against and got it correct almost everytime (f.a cup semi final aside). Then Trippier went into that post world cup season with an injury and that did affect him big time, so not all his fault.

I also felt that he lacked the concentration to cement that position, he would consistently not take care of where his passes were going and give the ball away allowing a changeover in dangerous areas.

Strikes me as sour grapes to be still talking about this.
He's moved to a better placed team and arguably should have a better lifestyle so I'm really not sure why he's moaning about the move so much.
The manager that sold him is no longer here and he really didn't play well in that final season for whatever reason.

Oh, I agree. He was very complacent that season. And like someone else posted, moving to a slower league really played to his strengths. Overall, 20 million might have seemed a good deal for Athletico, but I don’t think anyone else was jumping the queue to pay anymore for him, especially because he was coming off the back of a bad season where his limited physicality got exposed time and again

But something that occurs to me, be it on the pitch or otherwise, he doesn't appear to be the type of person to take responsibility for his own shortcomings. If he's injured, that's not his fault , but it's certainly no one else's fault either. He decided to continue playing through injury. When he's on the pitch and has a massive brain fart you see him doing the pointy shouty dance at younger players when clearly he's been caught out of position.
And even now still blaming spurs for trying to sell him behind his back, as if he wasn't negotiating with us in private before we agreed terms with Burnley.

Eh, I’m not convinced he’s any better than Aurier.

He had far better success in the final third and wasn’t anywhere near as error prone in defence. He had a bad season in his last year, but he still largely kept Aurier out of the side, Trippier at his worst is better than Aurier at his best. Aurier has improved under Jose, but overall he’s been an awful signing.
