Your defence of his poor form is really admirable, Mrs. Trippier.

It’s totally fair to say this is his worst season for us. He has regressed badly since a promising World Cup.

Can you not see that? Really?

Compare his performances to Rose, who has been far superior down the other flank.

It’s all opinions at the end of the day and I agree Trippier hasn’t had his best season for us but I think it’s all a bit much. In terms of positive outcomes Trippier has been far superior to Rose this season. That’s a fact that cannot be ignored. Having said that I think we can improve on both of them.

We had little pace at all in midfield, certainly not defensively, which showed on the odd occasion when they broke.

They were set up to defend and counter and one of their main strengths as a side is in the air, Duffy's one of the best players in the league in the air and Dunk is no slouch. I swear to fuck some of you seem to know absolutely fuck all about football.

Ha. Generalising the forums footballing knowledge as inferior to your own, due to a differing opinion?

That is total irony. Football is always about opinions.

I would say the majority feel Trips is having his worst season for us. Not that he is a bad player, or can never be good again - just that he has not been anywhere near his previous level. I would like to know how that can be incorrect. He has looked a shadow of himself at times.

Still amazed you can’t see that.

Aerial Challenges won this season.

246 Dunk & Duffy
242 Verts, Toby, Sanchez, Harry and Llorente.

It's a real fucking head scratcher why we didn't cross the ball much (from either side).

I wouldn’t bother, it doesn’t fit the narrative mate, some people just gotta have themselves a scape goat. Even when we win, we didn’t play well so that frustration and anger has to be directed at something, and the hive mind has decided it’s Tripps.

Trippier has had a bad season, and some of the criticisms are valid, he’s been poor defensively for a while now, and he seems to have lost confidence going forward. But some of the criticism of him in here is ridiculous and way over the top.

We win as a team, we lose as a team. Some people would do well to remember that.

I think maybe you just made yourself look a bit silly.

Try to consider how much defending Brighton do from crosses and corners. A hell of a lot more than we do.

They have also played way more minutes.

So you actually disproved your own point?

Lolz.

He was poor defensively tonight. Beaten once easily on the outside and then conceding a stupid foul when the opposition player was facing the other way.

Going forward he looked devout of confidence but I have to say that he wasn't helped by his team-mates who either released the ball late to him or more often seemed reluctant to give him the ball even when he had made space out wide, instead opting to cut back and pass back to Wanyama or Eriksen .

Think we need upgrade at RB but thought Rose was outstanding tonight and showed the desire and tenacity that Trippier is sadly lacking.

Totally agree mate. Trippier has all the tenacity of a kitten without teeth.

Will still be at each game supporting the lad. Just sad to see him struggling so badly with confidence. The lack of fight in him compared to Rose and many others is what hurts most.

Whatever his preconceived transfer value was it fell by about £10m on tonight's performance. If Man Utd do buy him we need have no worries about them being a threat next season.

Dunk and Duffy play in a team that gets bombarded most weeks, I'm not surprised they win a lot of aerial balls considering they sit back and try to hold on for dear life.

Our back-line is rarely under that kind of constant pressure.

really wasnt the game for him. little defending to do and no room to get a cross in. he's not got much pace so with 10 defenders in the last 1/3 he's going to struggle. I wouldnt say he was poor tonight, just largely ineffective against the setup he was facing.

Again, a tough win in a crucial game in the race for 4th with a threadbare squad against a team fighting for their lives and still with the fucking whinging.

I hadn't been aware of the vociferousness of the criticism aimed at Trippier. To castigate him specifically on the basis of last nights game seems myopic. I doubt David Beckham would have done much better if he was pushed right up to the by-line against a side with 9 men spread out across the width of the final third. From that position there is no space, no angle, and no target. IF that player, whether it be Trippier, Aurier or Vedran bloody Corluka, was deployed deeper, then the early cross in from deep becomes a genuine threat. That was Trippier's bread and butter at Burnely.

No point digging players out last night. The setup was awful against a team that didn't even leave their own half for 85 mins.

Not sure you can blame Tripps for not crossing into the box at every opportunity. Poch admitted after the game that he wanted us to shoot from outside of the area to break the deadlock, hence why he was looking inside for the last half an hour. By all means dig him out for defensive mistakes etc, not for following a tactical plan which eventually won us the game.

Brighton, as most poorer sides do, actively invited crosses. Trippier at his most effective is when he bets played behind the defence and plays volleyed cutbacks or balls along the box. For some reason, we couldn't pull that move off this game.
He had some moments when he combined with Son and Eriksen to play one of them into decent positions, but him not whacking crosses in yesterday should be seen as a positive.

I can't see us selling in the summer, Poch clearly likes him and we have other areas we need to address before even considering another new right back.

Hopefully it's nothing more than a World Cup hangover and he'll improve next season, Sissoko came back from worst form.

It's clear our tactics were to keep the ball to stretch Brighton and only to cross when we had little other option or men in the box with a chance of getting something on it and to have shots from outside the box, the only place where BHA afforded us any space.

Just throwing the ball in and surrendering possession was what Brighton wanted, we're a better footballing side than them, so outpass them. It's so hard for a team to remain concentrated when a team is all over them and I personally had faith that a chance would eventually come and go in.

Llorente was sandwiched between two big lads that are both very good in the air, why fucking waste the ball if there's nothing good on? Not to mention that some of the service to the width last night was pathetic, passes behind players, also far too slow to shift it at times

How did City do against them at home in a similar situation? 1-0 and they scored after 4 minutes.

Last night Trippier completed a higher % of crosses, had more passes leading to a shot than any Man City player and had a better pass completion than both their fullbacks, but yeah he's shite.

This was all so very predictable so why play Llorente?
