I said it in the match thread, I am not seeing what most seem to be seeing. He doesn’t look any more comfortable on the ball than Sanchez, has made errors, and for someone so strong have seen him out muscled quite a few times. He often seems to take a bad touch whilst dribbling with the ball that puts his pass under pressure.

Is probably fine as a back up but not ready for first team, he would not play for any other team with top 5 ambitions.

I was chatting to my lad over the weekend about our weak "captains" and we were trying to choose who we'd have as captain next season.
Christ it wasn't easy!

The fact that Danso's name came up as probably the best captain material in the squad, when we've only seen him play a few times, is pretty worrying.

The only other players who show grit and determination, basically any form of leadership, are probably the youngsters and Porro. 😬

I think he's the most rounded CB of all of them. I know the game changed second half but he gives us a presence in the air which vdv doesn't and has better discipline whilst being aggressive than Romero.
He's our best defensive CB imo. Not what everyone looks for in their defenders anymore though, you know, defending.

To me, showing just grit and determination isn't just what is needed to be a leader. It's funny as if anyone has a good game and gets stuck in people call them to be the next captain, but to be captain you need a lot more than that!

Not seen much of Danso so hard to say for me, but I wouldn't want Poro as captain, and there are very few in the squad I would take. Davies might be one, but doesn't play enough and one I would hope we replace.

I think for a captain you really need a dominant voice on the pitch, someone who will call out players who are underperforming / not there mentally and will demand minimum standards from those around him. Unfortunately I think players of that ilk are really few and far between these days, not just at Spurs. If you look at the club captains across the league you really don't see the likes of Terry, Keane, Vieira, Adams, Ferdinand, etc. Everyone's just a bit more friendly...

A good captain and leader leads by example, and pushes others to do better, not by giving them a bollocking but demanding and pushing for more. It's about trust, respect, integrity, and belief.

I've no idea if Deki is a respected character in the dressing room, but he sure as hell demands a lot of himself and, in that regard, leads by example at least when looking from the outside. It's such a difficult topic though as our insight into what goes on behind the scenes is limited.

I agree they need to lead by example, but they can't do it all alone, so they need the vocal element too. Bust a gut themselves, and then be able to turn to someone and say "look what I am doing, why the **** aren't you doing the same?" There are lots of players who can lead by example (Deki, KDB, Fernandes, etc.) who are excellent players, but I still don't think are ideal captains as other players can think they will do the work and win the game, so I don't need to, and I won't be called out for it.

I also think this is where a manager is really important. Ange is too passive on the touchline; I love a manager who has the in-game management to give instructions to players and demand more mid-game, and if the player doesn't respond appropriately to have the guts to haul them off (regardless of when in the game or who the player is).

Proper centre half. I like him as he doesn’t take risks and does the basics well. I trust him up against the big physical units more than our other options.

Shame we didn't have this back 4/5 options when Conte was here because I feel like the mix of him being a rock solid defender and good in the air, Romero, van de ven, and the wingbacks would have been really really good

Likes a simple pass out of play doesn’t he. Fine as a third choice backup though, not good enough as a Romero replacement if it comes to it.

I don't think he should be Romero's replacement.

Good defender, but we need a good defender who is also able to pass.

As soon as we get back up the table and challenge he will become a player we are all talking about needing to upgrade.

We need someone like Danso but someone comfortable on the ball too if we are going to want to play out from the back.

You should see the errors Romero and Porro have made in their time here
