Ignoring the injury for a second, he also got skinned on a couple of occasions in the second half. I know Bayern have quick wingers, but there's quite a few of those in the Premier League too, and we always struggled against them when Trippier played. Not going to judge him on 35 minutes against Bayern in a friendly, but he certainly didn't excel tonight even before the injury.

There isn't a full back in the world that this won't happen to.

Really hope it is just a sprain like Poch says, and not a damaged Achilles. Those can be pretty devastating injuries.

He got burned a few times today, but Coman tends to do that to a lot of defenders. I was only half-watching though so my judgement might be a big generous.

Coman pretty much highlighted the exact type of player I'd be concerned about Foyth being matched up against. Players with a quick turn of pace will always have the advantage on him, and Foyth has shown that propensity to foul immediately when outmaneuvered. Unfortunately, in the fullback position in the Premier League, that's almost guaranteed every game.

It feels like a recepie for disaster to not sign a rb if Juan is out for a long period of time. KWP and Aurier won't cut it. One hasn't played regularly at this level and one's injury prone.

Someone mentioned Dani Alves and that seems like a resonable deal imo. Yeah he's old and would demand huge wages, but the guy is still pretty good and we won't have to pay a transfer fee. He would also contribute a much needed experience of winning things.

If a long layoff then two words for a one-season fix/backup free agent blah blah

Dani Alves

Much like when Ferguson brought in Blanc at the age of 35 who helped deliver them yet another title.

I really can't believe we haven't even been linked. He's such a great one season stop-gap who would be incredibly valuable just for what he brings in winning experience, professionalism, and mindset/winners attitude.

Not to mention he'd be the best RB we've had in a long time.

I'm sure we could pay him something he would accept, especially factoring in it's on a free transfer so opens more for wages. He's also a pretty easy player to justify spending on (in terms of how others in the squad would view it - ie. Toby getting jealous or something)...he's literally won 40 trophies and pretty much done it all.

He’s not the answer at right back. He’s a centre back. It’s going to take him a while to be trained up as a right back and we don’t have that. He’s a good lad and I feel sorry for him he’s being shoehorned into this position when it obviously doesn’t suit him.

I mentioned dani alves in the match thread last night. As much as I don’t want to get a make do signing, bringing him in makes sense short term. Although I doubt we will.

And yet up against Sané/Sterling in the league he was brilliant 1v1.

It's a learning curve for him. Coman has exceptional pace off the mark and Foyth got too tight to him. It highlights the fact that FB isn't an easy position to adapt to and takes a lot of learning. Positioning is vital and he doesn't have that just yet, but neither did Trippier last season. Hopefully Serge recovers soon.

Foyth would be a good fill in at RB to some, is that a serious ? Foyth has no pace, when he gets beat he grabs and fouls, not what we want, rotate KWP or Aurier, if we play foyth at RB we deserve whatever we get. no everything is not about pace but it helps 100%.

Using a performance against Coman as a barometer of a full back's ability is a complete waste of time.

It’s not when he’ll be up against the likes of

Correct it’s not all about pace but it’s very important if you lack positional awareness and/or brute strength. Foyth is a reasonable build but still lacks strength and aggression. The latter is more of a controlled aggression than the type that gets you red cards. Playing him at RB in a way masks the issues he has as a young inexperienced CB, sadly it doesn’t make him any less exposed at RB either.

Hope the injury sustained is not serious. "Luckily" for us, he's banned for 2 games so he will have time to mend it. I feel confident that KWP will do good against Aston Villa and Man City

@viktorviktor I assume the "wtf" vote was because I forgot the "not serious".. My bad. Edited now

IMO, even if Foyth is injured long term we're not going to sign another RB unless we sell Aurier and I don't see that happening.

Foyth has admitted that Poch has already asked him about becoming an RB so we have 3 on the books right now so whether Foyth is injured or not, we still have enough players there to not warrant spending on another.

I personally thought KWP looked very good last night. Got forward well, put in a lovely cross for Lucas that should've been a goal and defended fine.

Aurier is also being under-estimated IMO. He's a good full back with all the tools to be our 1st choice. He just needs to improve his decision making and be a little less rash in challenges, which I think he already improved on last season vs the season before.
