I hope he starts alongside Toby so I can sing to the tune of sit down by James

Jo Ro don
Oh sit down
Jo Ro don
Oh sit down
Jo Ro don
Oh sit down
Ro don and To by
Sit down next to me

Maybe a good job I can't attend games :cautious:
I can go one better. Sign Ben Mee and go to a back 3.

Rodon, Rodon, Rodon, Rodon
Roooodon, Toby and Mee.

I hate it.

I also thought I’d seen somewhere he plays left centre back for Columbia?

Rodon prefers left side though, strange a right footer does but so did Terry and King and for me he’s just gotta play.

He can’t do any worse then the shit show of defending against West Ham and he plays international football and LOVES defending.

Gotta take the chance sometimes, as Poch would say ‘be brave’, why keep playing out of form / unconvincing defenders when we’ve just bought a young lad who is raring to go.

He may make some mistakes but at the moment his ceiling is certainly higher and he’ll learn from them.

Sanchez and Toby need to be gone as soon as possible so we will need a couple more centre backs as well.

'He LOVES defending' 'Get rid of Toby and Sanchez and get some new defenders'

Mods, can we get age restrictions on Spurscommunity? Only fully grown adults allowed to post.

Obviously our mental age doesn't come into it ?

Is this highly patronising post really necessary?

He was described as loving to defend, hence that part of my post and I think I’m fully justified in wanting rid of Sanchez and Toby.

Maybe you should grow up and learn to be more respectful to other peoples posts?

This is typically how songs start and die a quick death inside the new stadium when you get killjoy geriatrics crying at you for being out of your seat.

Come on the song is obvious (even better if he's subbed on)

to the catchy number Ride on time by Black Box.

Yes it's Rodon Time!
Yes it's Rodon Time!

Could even sing the woah woah, whoa whoa.

Gotta get up gotta get up gotta get up. Win win win the header.
You just walk right in (to the team ;) )

The Extra Inch just made this analysis of Joe Rodon available to watch for free. Really good insight from both on Rodon's strengths and weaknesses. Also speculate on whether his injuries have changed his game at all.

For those who don't have time to watch an hour long video, here's a quick summary:
  • Has "composed aggression," likes to step out to win the ball back, but stays calm and in control while doing so.
  • Good in the air, directs a lot of his headers fairly well.
  • Comfortable playing on either side because of the way he takes touches and shapes his body, he doesn't need to push it onto his strong foot like Sanchez does.
  • Short passing game is positive and he'll carry it forward to make those passes sometimes.
  • Long passing, he takes a lot of risks and therefore has a fairly low passing accuracy - could be tactical.
  • Defending one-on-one, he was excellent before his injury last season, took lots of steps to adjust his body and keep the right shape. This season, he's not taking quite as many steps and seems a bit more heavy-footed. Small sample.
  • Our current centre-backs don't make great pairings, but Rodon and Dier are well-suited. Rodon is also fairly similar to Jan, so could likely play well with Toby.

It is a bit of a daft post, tbh. You're making a whole lot of assumptions about a player who hasn't played a minute for us and has never even played in the PL. Toby just signed a three-year deal with us - he's going nowhere. Sanchez needs to do better but he's an experienced CB now and first choice for his country, same as Toby. 'Wanting rid' of them in favour of an unproven Championship player is ridiculous.

If one is to butt in and meta-debate other user's posts; I believe the poster you quoted meant to say that he'd like to replace Alderweireld and Sanchez with new CBs. And he's not wrong, we do need more CBs, so that poster might very well be proven right.

It was worded poorly looking at it in retrospect and i’m not against people saying that, but there’s ways to do it without being plain rude - for example your post is perfectly valid and makes good arguments against mine.

Probably knee jerk as was still so absolutely gutted by the West Ham result, although I do still feel we should be looking to give Rodon an opportunity as soon as possible, especially as he favours the left side which means whoever is playing alongside him is on their favoured side giving us better balance in there.

And we do still desperately need another centre back at some point, might be a bit too soon in January given the amount we have already laid out on signings.

Yeah, Sunday was a nightmare obviously but in the cold light of day i think we defended poorly as a team in the later stages. Toby and Sanchez take their share of that but all of the eleven on the pitch should be looking at themselves. Jose too.

If the right offer came along I wouldn't be against Sanchez leaving and someone else brought in. As it stands we've got five CBs - Dier, Sanchez, Toby, Tanganga and Rodon (even Ben Davies at a push). That seems enough to me, but I could see us upgrading on Sanchez if the right player was available.

Anyone seen him play regularly to know what we are actually getting, I have honestly never seen him play...but I am excited just hearing about him, but some of these players can get overblown..
