This lad is brilliant. Says everything you need to know about the lad that he keeps a defender of Jans experiance out of the side.

Beggars belief that he was right under Pochs nose and yet did’nt start a competitive match until Jose came in. Would’nt surprise me at all to see Tanganga in the England squad for the Euros.
At this rate I'll be shocked if he doesn't make the squad.

Yep, when you consider England’s lack of quality at CB Andy the fact that Tanganga looks comfortable playing anywhere along the back line, then next Southgate surely has to have a closer look at the lad.

He is a right footed central defender that defensively plays the left back role perfectly. Really unheard of. Even van Dijk would struggle to play that wrong side full back role any better. Obviously not suggesting he is anything close to van Dijk in general, but I can't help wondering how good he will be as a CD if he keeps this up. Just astonishing how good he is.

Van Dijk wishes he was Tanganga

there's a tendency here to over-rate our youngsters but he seems the real deal. composed beyond his years.

This is a question to our more frequent academy watchers here...I know Tanganga was one of our better defenders while in the youth ranks, but did anyone expect him to make this good a transition into the first team set up?

With most of our most talented youngsters, if they are put in their best position and managed well e.g. Tanganga is expected to just defend. Then I have faith most will. It's impossible to ever fully predict but in terms of ability I had no concerns that he'd be good enough for first team football.

If however, he was actually expected to perform LB/RB duties I think he'd look seriously out of place. To that extent I think Jose's been excellent at handling his introduction.

I'm surprised that a lot of people are saying that they hadn't heard much about him. But it could possibly be because prior to going on preseason, he had a year of the standard stagnation and I think most people had stop suggesting players for the first team. But he's been constantly talked about since he academy watchers have been known of him.

But does beg the question to those that believe the cream will always rise, why he hadn't been given a chance since preseason until Jose arrived. Certain players take certain managers fancy, who knows where he'd be if he JM never arrived

One thing I’ve noticed today from reading the Spurs Youth thread, is the rumours a number of players are looking to leave after being frustrated with their development pathways. Maybe seeing Tanganga make the breakthrough, and now Jose looking to get more players out on loan for development, maybe that’ll placate some.

I think it will need to be an over time thing. I don't expect JM to introduce another academy player anytime soon let alone another defender, but then I didn't expect this. Point being I don't think 2 months, is going to make up for what has gone on for last few years. If, Skipp or Parrott start getting chances as well, plus the loans as you say, I expect a lot more will be encouraged to stay

Can we say Poch gave him a chance (debut againat Colchester) or was it JM who shown him faith and gave him the chances to show his worth?

Don't understand how he seems to be do good yet many people never really spoke about him, quality player.

He was spoken about a lot (and rated) in the youth threads. What caught me by surprise was how explosive and pacy he is, because that was never mentioned.

For the youth watchers: anybody else down there who is an explosive athlete?

I like the fact he can play in any position and make it his own. Walker beat him a few times but his revovery is immense. Kings heir imo.

I saw a couple of the Audi Cup games in the summer and thought he looked very impressive but he didn't make the bench once in the PL or CL under Pochettino. Mourinho had him on the bench for the final CL group game against Bayern, then as a non-playing sub in the three PL games after Christmas. Started against Liverpool and the four games since.

If Mourinho has him on the bench for PL games four weeks after taking over and starting games a couple of weeks later, he gets the credit 100% on this.

Totally agree! I first saw him when Poch took him on the pre-season tour and immediately thought that this is one for the future, based on his performances against Bayern and Juventus on the same tour.

It tells its own story where Poch only seemed to trust and play him against Colchester (His only competitive match in the 1st team under Poch), while Mourinho did not hesitate to blood him against the high flying Liverpool.
