I suspect there is some middle ground here. Yes there were errors prior to the goal, but Trix is dead on. He lost his man when he should have had his body on Firmino. (there has been quite a bit of that this year) No doubt Firmino had an outstanding turn but he would have struggled far more to make that turn had Japhet been touch tight and in a position to contest the possession as suggested. I would respectfully disagree with Trix that it was a slight blip. It was a major blip as a goal was scored. It is not surprising given he is an academy player on his first start against world class forwards. IMHO, it was a major blip on an outstanding performance all things considered. What i suspect we all can agree on is that at this moment, the future looks quite bright for Japhet

The point being that it's possible to look forward to his development whilst still judging him like other seniors.

Tanganga is partly responsible for the goal, that’s just a fact. It does follow on from a string of bad decisions and bad defending but it’s there none the less.

First problem is the decision to award them the throw. That shit happens I guess.

The biggest cause of the goal happens next, Winks gets dragged into a position he shouldn’t have been tracking a runner from the throw, he should have held his ground to ensure the throw isn’t launched over his head. This is basic shit that you’d teach a 10 year old. And ultimately that cost us the goal.

Following that there was the shit headed clearance, the fumbling of the ball towards Firminho, who did Japhet like a kipper. He’s a 19 year old defender though, of course he will learn from that experience and the game as a whole.

On to the next one.

Young Ledley if he keeps putting in performances like this. Probably our most exciting academy prospect in my opinion, I love good defenders.

Nothing like overhyping and comparing him to one of the best centre backs that we and England have ever had lol...

I mean I like him but mentioning him in same breath as Ledley after one league start is a wee bit daft.

It’s an opinion, which you don’t have to agree with but that’s what it is.

It doesn’t take much to see he has that something special, if you remember Ledley as a young player (which is why I said Young Ledley) you’ll see some similarities and that’s why I referenced the King.

I’m in no way saying that he is at that level yet or that he will definitely get there, but he has the traits that could lead him in that direction. Let’s revisit this conversation in 4-5 years and see how far he has progressed by then.

I agree that it was an overstatement though and he could turn out either way, like I said I get excited by good young defenders so that leads to exaggeration in general.

He has...?

Jose alluded to it in his press conference

Is this personal Jose ITK you have received?

Not sure what he meant, on the Athletic Spurs pod, they reckoned we can take option for another year at end of this season. Hopefully he just gets a new one.

It’s there for all to see, he explicitly says he’d not have picked Tanganga if he was out of contract this summer.

Can anyone who's watched him in the youth set up tell Me if he has played RB before. Or if this is Mourinho bedding him in. I like what I see, but not when CBs get played RB for ther sake of it
