Plus he's not a LB and he's not even left footed. He had several things against, but did good enough

Interesting you say he's not left footed, because whenever I've seen him play before recently he's always been on the LHS side of the team.

He's played at rb, his position, and did so well JM has moved him to lb twice. The first time he got mugged repeatedly.
I dont think this is fair on him.
Speaks volumes about the state of our lb's.

Japhet Tanganga and GLC are clearly the main positives so far in a season that has largely been frustrating and under par, punctuated with too many key injuries and an urgent need to strengthen the sqaud.

Think Japhet is now one of the players that Jose will use to counter specific attacking threats. Wouldn't be surprised if he's deployed as DM some time this season.

Shows what a talent he is. And a great character. Seems comfortable playing anywhere across the back line. Love the kid.

The thing that really stands out is his how he loves to throw his body in the way of danger and makes 2 or 3 really important blocks a game. There is a proper defender in there. Sanchez will definitely be looking over his shoulder with this kid ready to get ahead of him in the pecking order. Really happy he has taken his chance.

And on that point, this is exactly what youth players need to do, training counts as does pre-season. But when the manager puts you in to a competitive game you have to shine and show something, it's the only way to break into a big club and he has definitely shown what he is all about.

More impressed I was than by his goal line clearance was when he took the ball straight onto his face at high speed and from close range on the left side of the goal/ six yard box. Fucking painful it looked.

...and then pretty much just got on with the game again. So called grown men take note.

Harsh on Sanchez at the time. When we bought him he looked like he was going to become an elite centre half. Hasn’t progressed in the slightest since being at our place though unfortunately
I maintain still, Sanchez is the best defender at our club.

In patches, but his one on one play is sometimes woeful, he's pretty scary with the ball at his feet and he is quite possibly the worst defender i've seen at judging a ball in the air either with his head or feet, it's comedy at times.

If he is the best we have, it's why we concede so often, has potential but limited improvement from him since he's arrived and no where near the level of King, VVD, Rio etc and that's what we need a the back, a top top defender, not someone quite good. I know it's hard to find but he is way off the top top level for me.

You’ll find that our goals against are favourably better when his in the team over the hole in the fence partnership of Jan Toby

Really?
Which part of his game are you impressed with?
He cant judge the flight of the ball even when not under pressure and every 50/50 he's out muscled.
I can't see where you're coming from at all but each to his own.

Edit, Talking about Sanchez not Tanganga ;)

But that's not saying much when Vert is playing like a 4/10. The point being is Sanchez good enough to lead us into the future at the back? I'm really not sure at all, i never feel completely comfortable with him as a defender and i think you're using rose tinted glasses if you believe he has improved much at all since joining us.

I'd be interested to see how we do with Tanganga and Toby as a pairing.

It is genuinely astonishing how bad he is with the flight of the ball, it's horrendous and that's a huge part of a CBs game. People keep saying how young he is, but he has been playing top level football now at big clubs for 4 years, i expected more of an improvement, that's all.

Like many others Sanchez is struggling a bit for form and confidence. He’s still a great asset for us and when he gets back to his best form he’s a top player

On Tanganga it was yet again another brilliant goal line clearance, his 2nd in 4 games

Something you just cannot teach to have that awareness of the exact position you need to be in to avert a certain goal. Ashley Cole had it and if JT ends up having half as good a career he’s have been a great success

Also blocked a chance with his head. Took it flush in the face

He’s done brilliantly so far and most of it not in his most comfortable position

Be great if we can find one or two more like him from the academy. Gives the whole team a lift and breathes life back into us
