I dont recall Jan being this poor and slow last season... it feels like it only just happened as soon as this season started... even in pre season he looked ok.

Am I just imagining it and he was actually shit last season?

Even in one game in pre season he looked like his legs were gone he may adapt to this loss of pace but sadly it takes the best even a while to learn how to change the way you play to adapt to a lack of pace.

Only the great have managed to do that your maldini’s,Lucio, naybet,Stam,Vidic etc and even they hit another wall pretty quickly and had to retire or leave the premier league and sadly for us I just don’t think Jan can adapt.

My hero for 6+ years.
But sadly his legs are gone now. He is moving in slow motion now. Its painful to see him struggle at this level.

We got to let him to go this season. Need a new left sided CB

All the best Jan. Still remember pitching a semi when I saw you in the stands of WHL around the time you signed.

Serie A is thataway.

The prem is no place for you anymore now that you're a cylinder down.

Very sad to read that. But ultimately true.

Think the writing is on the wall now after Tanganga's debut. Ben Davies is nearly ready to go again too so we could let JV go in my opinion. Would be nice if he could get a return to Ajax.

Jan has been a great servant, time here may be up, unless he is willing to be a bit part squad player when needed.

I don't want him to lose his status here by playing past his sell by date......he deserves more than that.

Appreciate everything he has done for the club.

But for me it said a lot that Jose picked a youngster making his debut, against one of the best attacking teams in the world, while Jan and Dier sat on the bench.

Been good player for the club over past 8 or so years but sadly his legs have gone when it comes to the premier league. Sure if he went to Italy he would easily have another 3/4 season in him playing in one of Europe’s top leagues.

So much for the Jose Only Plays Experienced Players mantra. Hands forced but still..

Watched the video on ssn this morning of the chat and he looked pretty happy so I expect he will sign on. Whether that’s a good or bad thing I’m not sure. If he signs I suspect he will do so knowing he won’t be playing as often.

He had a very comfortable ride last night and had a decent game. I think that overall though, our lack of pace at the back is not only causing defensive issues but also creating other problems. We can't push the back line up like we used to and that leads to much more space in midfield which we struggle to manage, especially with 2 in CM. That in turn makes it much harder for us to win possession back in vital areas. Consequently, we seem to spend an awful lot of time on the back foot, even against pretty average opposition. Tanganga could well be a major step in the right direction though as he seems to have pace to burn. Him and Sanchez are quick and I don't think Eyoma is far behind him on the development curve either.

As everybody has said he has been a fantastic player for the club - one of the very best defenders in the club's history for me. I'd like to see him remain in the squad as his experience and class is important but I don't see him as a regular starter anymore. Will depend on whether he would be happy with that.

Everytime I see comments about his deterioration since last season I can't help wondering if he is suffering some long term effects from his head injury. Would like to keep him as a squad player though

It made me a bit sad reading that. Shame he never got to play under Redknapp. I think he would really have been even more of a star under him instead he had to put up with AVB and Sherwood for his first few seasons with us.

100% quality though. I see no harm in giving him another year as a back up if he's happy with that. Not sure Levy will feel the same way though.

Players from past generations tend to get mythologised a bit, but for me I put Jan up with my old favourites like Roberts, Mabbs and King. 8 years ffs. If he'd be happy staying, I'd give him a 2 year extension and a testimonial, no bother.

I agree but unfortunately i'm not sure his legs have 2 seasons left in them. At the moment he looks very stiff. I reckon he'd do well to have some yoga and pilates sessions, if he doesn't already, they'd really help him out.

We kept Ledders on way past he should have. He had no knees for gods sake. I'm sure we can string him out for another 18months.

Only if he wanted to of course.
