People spend years crying out for depth and more rotation, then get the hump when players are left out.

It's gonna happen a lot this season.

Must admit, I usually watch games on my PC so I can chat about games if I don't go to them but decided to watch it on the TV today and fuck me it was so much more enjoyable:LOL:, well the 3 minutes we were winning anyway.

Yes we may have all jumped to a conclusion. But to be left out of the match day squad. Not good enough for the bench? Hmmm. Weird.

Agree
I don't think this is a big deal, his explanation about Dier covering 2 positions and also Aurier being able to cover either side made perfect sense, Jan was also looked a big sluggish in pre-season so at worse it's a kick up the ass. Fact he was at the stadium with the boys tells you that everything is fine in the long run.

Agree with this.
Poch has made a couple of comments now first about Dele looking after his body or something like that & today praising the shape kane arrived in for pre season alluding to the fact that some players holiday too much.
Maybe Jan fell into that group & he is just keeping him on his toes.

i Do think outside of Lloris and Kane there’s going to be lots of rotation this season. Today was Poch marking the squads card.

Exactly what I was going to say. This is the biggest squad we’ve had in years. Full of quality. This will happen more and more, we are gonna have to get used to it.

I think it’s the fact he wasn’t even on the bench that is the issue. No one can tell me we needed Wanyama, Dier and Skipp on our bench against Villa at home. Or against anybody for that matter.

And if we didn’t have our first choice LB close to leaving in the window ( and could still yet leave ) and two of our other best players possibly running their contract down I think Jan’s surprise omission would not have got the same fan reaction.

I really don’t see an issue here. I think the media are shit stirring and making it out to be more than it is.
I disagree, All I’ve seen in the media is that Vertonghen needs to do more to get back in team, whereas in here most people seem to think something has gone on and he’s leaving ect

I don't know why people are trying to deny that this isn't strange, because it is. Vertonghen is our best CB, you don't just simply leave your best CB out of the squad in the first game of the season. What I will say though is that it may still be something that is soon forgotten. Alderweireld was left out in similar fashion away to Arsenal last season and apparently has done something bad behind the scenes and look at him now.

Hopefully we'll just see him return next week and things can go back to normal, which is what I think we will see happen, personally.

could just be a ecent piece of man management to ensure the squad doesn’t sit back and rely on reputation. you want to play? show it. earn it. whoever you are.

Yep and added to this poch is now building our next 5 year chapter which means more game time for the likes of Sanchez, Foyth possibly dier as well at CB. Succession planning.

Feels like Poch is evolving as a Manager, his reign at our beloved club has
made him one of the highest rated mangers in the game, waking a sleeping
giant in the prosess. We have watched his development flourish for 5 seasons,
and this feels/look like him trying to experiment with more than just the team,
but also his own Manager skills, getting his “Fergie Power” on sort of speak.

I highly doubt Jan beats Toby in a game of “Who to drop” anyways, our itk´s are
way to good to miss something like that. Since no sense makes sense i am sure
that Poch knows what he is doing, and is getting even better at it in the processes.

Lets just sit back and enjoy the ride, the “Eriksen saga” should keep us occupied
for a while, soo why not just wait for some ITK from the trusted ones.
Thats what i am gonna do at least. YOU, can do whatever the fuck you want. (y)

Weird? no doubt!

Poch is always a bit narky when quizzed about players who didn’t play - he finds it insulting to the ones that did.

As others have said it’s probably just a combination of succession planning and managing Jan’s minutes playing him for the harder opponents.

3 into 2 does not go, and we have three very good centre backs to choose from as well as very promising players in Foyth and Tanganga. I absolutely love Vertonghen but if we’re going to spend a year bemoaning lack of depth, then we can’t start setting ourselves when our depth means that our favourites don’t play. We have a very good squad.
That's a fair and reasonable point. And would be a point that nobody had questioned if Jan was just on the bench. But for him to not even be on the bench when we have Wanyama, Dier and Skipp as backup defensive midfielders against a team where we wouldn't need defensive midfielders suggests there's more to Jan's exclusion than an abundance of squad depth.

Sanchez isn’t a patch on Jan when match day comes though. Regardless of how he is in training.

Sanchez for me has not convinced me yet. Big season for him as I said in the summer.

Im not worried, could be something as simple as not quite putting a shift in during the week...and making an example out of him.

I cant see it being contractual like the issues with Toby and Eriksen, as they both made the squad and played.

Wanyama can play as a CB, and Dier can play as a CB/RB, and if we had too Aurier could play as a LB or swap and use KWP on the left.

I'm sure I read somewhere over the last 2 years that Jan actually wants more rotation to pro long his career. think he has picked up lengthy injuries over the last 3 seasons.

anyone that blames Sanchez for the goal really need to watch it again. yes he was marking his man but the height that Mings launched the through ball would of meant not marking him for 2-3 seconds as the ball left Mings foot. had he done that and managed to not win the challenge perfect his man could of been in space

Sorry but Jan not even making the 18 is odd no two ways about it. He was good pre-season, he looked in high spirits in the media session, he was one of the best last season. No sugar coating this, very weird.
