I think all these obituaries are way too early.

The bedrock of our defence he may no longer be but it is not inconceivable that he remains an important player who can play a role for us.

Many defenders have adapted to a loss of pace and continued at a very high level.
John Terry, Jamie Carragher, Tony Adams and not forgetting Phil Jones!

Seeing Jan like that last night made me almost not care about the match itself. Jan is everything I love about our club. Class, cool and an excellent player. He's been rather below par this season, yes. But he did have the look of someone who thinks their time is up last night.

That video of him crying above is shattering and made me cry too. The video of him celebrating the equaliser and winning goal has made me feel slightly better, as it shows exactly how much this Club means to him.

I really hope he understands how much he means to us too. Hopefully we give him a new contract for another 12 months, just to keep him at the Club for another year as an experienced figure to help the likes of Tanganga and Sanchez. I don't want him to leave, despite his performances.

Not sure how his knee problems started, though I think remember reading he had said his first injury was picked up in one of his first games and he was then plagued by it forever more.

The last, and 'fatal', injury was rumoured to be him colliding with one of the youth keepers during one of his rare forays out on to the training pitch. This happened about mid-season and after that he really really struggled. There was the penalty he conceded against Man City, where he did the most un-Ledley like thing of desperately diving in, and after that he was just getting fucked over by opposition forwards every week. Grant Holt being the one that springs to mind the most.

Ledley did his knee in his first ever game away to Derby. Never recovered from that injury.

Jan has been a good servant to the club he will always be remembered in a good light. Personally I haven't been happy at all with Jan and Toby's defending especially in one on one situations for the last 2 seasons.

It's probably time for him to move on

agree, i was reading them thinking has he left the club already ?

nearly sure it was just over a month ago when he scored a late winner at Wolves, and how important could that turn out

What we don't know is ANYTHING about why Jan was upset - if he was upset about being hooked, fine. But if he's playing for a new contract and getting hooked, there could be more to it - like having to uproot your life and your family's life if you don't secure a new contract when you'd rather not.

We don't know, but I think the best way forward is to be kind before casting aspersions about falls from grace. We don't know what's happening here.

He’ll be Ajax manager one day for sure. If he’s successful maybe he’ll come to us too.

Love him and the perfect example to show Eriksen about how to behave even when your contract situation is unsure.

Love Jan. As someone has mentioned I think he can still play a part in our team even though he seems to have lost some pace with age.

He could have just had a fucking headache for all you amateur psychologists know. As lovely as all of these eulogies were to read i wouldn't trust you lot to diagnose a cold.

I've seen the clip that everyone has decided is him crying because he wiped his eyes once and blew his nose a couple of times if that's what you mean yeah.

Sorry i mean i saw the clip of him balling his eyes out and mouthing 'why lord why?' into the sky. Did you also notice that when Moura scored he threw his jacket on the floor but the range of motion was limited to 60 degrees which shows he actually strained his shoulder. Also throwing a jacket with the right arm (not left! he's left handed!) in Netherlands is highly regarded as a sign of deep disrespect, he clearly wants out and hates it here, he's running his contract down so fuck him, he didnt clap the fans once, what kind of self obsessed guy walked half the stadium and doesnt acknowledge the fans who pay his wages? Fuck that play him in the reserves until he can be bothered to do a nice instagram about the club or something.

Or he just felt sad, or had a headache, or his dog died.

Hows that? Better?

indeed. Yes he is a declining force but come on he just had a bad game (who didnt?) and looked gutted to be subbed. And now people have create a whole narrative around it.

Didnt he also pull of a magnificent game saving tackle very recently too?

I can think of another big number 5 who was visibly devastated at being subbed off early in a big FA Cup tie. He came back well...
