All the evidence is his legs are pretty much gone for PL level. It's so easy now to get the ball in behind him and then he's in real trouble. Even with stuff like the other night for one of Boro's chances, ok Sanchez's pass into him was a little fierce and it was a wet, zippy surface, but there still shouldn't really have been a problem. It became one because he couldn't shift his feet in time.

Unless he has a strong end to the season and can show way, way more than he has done then I don't really see any need to keep him unfortunately. We've got another Belgian centre back who is on the decline, but is a couple of years younger, who can take the role of veteran and be transitioned out of the team. Personally don't think we need two of them.....

Weird how fast downhill it can go. He was one of our better players last season. But everyone has looked sluggish this season.

Will always love Jan for what he has done for us but I think he should go back and captain Ajax now.

I've nothing but love for Jan, but I think now is the time for him to move to a slower league. I'd be happy to let him go on a free so he can get a good contract for himself. He's been nothing but professional and an all round good guy.

He deserves a testimonial, for a me a top servant of the club. In his younger days let’s be honest he could have left for bigger clubs, the guy looked like he was born to play for Barca, like Pique with but with less defensive errors.

He stuck with us and now age is catching up, he still might be fine for say Ajax in their league. But he should be appreciated by the fans.

Should be seen as one of the top CBs to play for the club

What I dont understand is a year ago he was flying down the left wing vs. Dortmund. Can his legs have gone that quickly?

It feels like it's all linked to post-CL and the summer. The athleticism and energy of most of our squad seems to have fallen off a cliff, and is only just starting to get closer to what we'd have all expected now - and that's with the younger lads in our squad!

Any idea why he looked so miserable after being subbed tonight? Looked more than just being annoyed at being taken off, he looked broken, almost like he realised he can’t do it anymore

Distraught at being subbed while Dier remained on the pitch

Think you answered your own question. I really hope we win something this year because the chances of him being offered an extension are quickly dimishing. Also this might be controversial but I really think, despite being two years short he deserves a testimonial.

It reminded me of Gary Neville when he was taken off in a game mid-season and suddenly realised his body had given up on him. It came out of nowhere for him and it seems the same has happened to Jan.

One of the finest defenders to grace the shirt but I can't see him at the club past the summer.

I think thats exactly what it is, he gets outpaced and outmuscled all the time now so he must realise he is done at this level.
Real shame as he has been outstanding for us.

100%, been a proper servant and one of the best we have had, even in some truly dark days.

I dont really get an emotional attachment to players... only the real long timers or players i think give a shit... Jan I feel is one of them and this just makes me so sad. He is proper contemplating like he found it a struggle and cant do it anymore at this level. So sad.
