Still can’t get my head around the level he was playing at before the Chelsea injury and the level he’s played at this season. Mind-boggling.

Maddison has had few stinkers in this calendar year. Most of them came when he was stil carrying an injury. For me, overall he is playing the same way as he came to us. I just feel his effectiveness has been taken out of his play with how way we are set up and we no longer possess wingers who are good enough to run behind or beat their man.

He is the only Spurs player who can spot Werner's runs and pass properly to him.

As bad as many think madders has been this season he is our top scorer in the league and pretty much averaging a goal or assist every 90minutes in the league. I do find it strange he is either hooked off every time he starts or is only given 20minutes to change a game when he comes on.

Him and Johnson getting slaughtered at the darts with the "Tottenham get battered" song by the whole place.

Every event everywhere that song gets sung.

We aren't even any good ffs...****s 😂

With Bergvalls emergence starting to wonder where he sits in the team. Doesn’t start in our best 3 IMO and doesn’t seem to be a player that will want a prolonged time on the bench. Could see him being moved on in the summer

He's our best player, maybe second to Kulusevski at worst. He's our top scorer in the league, second for assists, and is the only midfielder who can consistently skip through the opposition's midfield and get us on the attack.

If we based everything on stats Modric would’ve been seen as a disaster. Looking at the games he’s played he often looks a passenger imo and can’t figure out his positioning. You can’t play him in a 3 with Kulusevski imo, who obviously starts when he can.

1 in 5 though he’s very good, just isn’t consistent enough for where we want to be my opinion. And seemingly many of the fans who weren’t exactly buzzing to see him replace Bergvall yesterday. Interested in the debate though, maybe I am too hard on him.

Modric isn't really a comparable player or role to Maddison though, he was a deep midfielder who controlled the game, Maddison is an advanced midfielder who makes things happen in and near the final third. In the role Maddison plays, goals and assists are important, and he has a lot of them.

We always look best attacking when he's on the pitch IMO. He drifts around and finds bits of space, pulls players out of position, gets through the press with the ball at his feet, and plays clever passes. And he's always involved, he's actually getting more touches of the ball per 90 this season than Bissouma or Sarr, for example.

Kulusveksi is probably better through the middle than on the wing, but I'd say Maddison is enough of an upgrade over any of our other midfielders that it's worth moving Kulusveksi wide where he's still very good.

Yeah sorry my point about Modric was more my issue with using stats as a barometer of how players are performing. Modric got an assist and goal a season and we all watched him run games. It’s not baseball where stats are that important imo. I mean well done for him putting them in but isn’t much of a guide to me.

He’s clearly talented player and stands out when he’s on it. Just the severe lack of consistency seems like he can’t justify a start.

But yeah as post said I was thinking more long term than rest of this season. When we have a proper RW.

Said on VFTL that Maddison was meant to start for the Wolves game and didnt because he was unwell. Then managed to rouse himself for the Darts that evening.

He did come on off the bench though, no?

There’s a big difference between being well enough to do a 90 minute game and being too sick to sit on your arse watching people throw darts at a board.

It’s not like he phoned in sick and then was caught out.

Sitting watching darts when under the weather is very different to running 12+ km incorporating loads of sprints. I don’t see why anyone has an issue with it. I could understand if he was sinking pints and staggering all over the place, but he wasn’t and so it’s a non event.

I’ve never really liked the term inconsistent as an analysis. It just fails to look at the issue or cause for the weakness.

I can’t quite work Maddison out.

I think he talks a good game and when things are going well he can shine.

I think he just isn’t up for the nitty gritty of the game or digs in and steps up when the chips are down.

He has wonderful ability so he will have moments in difficult games at times but I feel his overall performance lacks in those situations.

Totally agree.

He'd be world class if he could dig in, battle more and take a game by the scruff more.

Class ability, but far too often drifts well out of games, especially when we're facing more attritional sides.

I'm shit at my job and I'm still allowed to socialise in my free time, so why shouldn't footballers be allowed to do the same? In fact I can guarantee half of these muppets who criticise are putting in 25% effort in their 9-5 jobs but still go out at the weekends.

This culture is fucking pathetic. Fuck every one of you ****s who criticises footballers for not wanting to stay at home and go to bed at 8pm just because their team isn't performing.
