Could Maddison play LW in certain situations? I think he’d offer quite a lot there - kind of the opposite(sided) role that Palmer was doing for Chelsea last year.

He can offer so much to the side - it’s a question of finding a way to accommodate him.

Having Bentancur and Sarr starting to get some form gives us a lovely headache - I wonder if Ange can find a solution, or if the answer is more rotation?

Yeah that Son one is the last one. I think the Eriksen one on the last day of the 2018/19 season is the last time an actual shot was taken directly from a free kick that went in

Lucas scored a direct free-kick against Marine in 2021. That’s probably the last intentional one :playful:

Ange’s wingers stay high & wide and have pace. He couldn’t do a job there in this team.

He isn't a leader. He might be great behind the scenes and in the group but he isn't a captain or leader on the pitch and frankly it feels like we don't need him right now, and definitely not as a starter.

If he doesn't adapt better to this I think Ange might want him sold in the summer.

Zero chance Ange sells him this summer absolutely zero.

He’s an important part of our squad but isn’t suited to certain games where we need a more physical midfield.

Maddison has all the tools to be a great player but he has matches where he reminds me of David Bentley.

He has contributed a goal /assist in 6 of our 10 PL games so far. Only one player in our squad has contributed more goals and assists so far this season (Kulusevski has 8, compared to Maddison's 7).
While there may be a case for him not being an automatic starter currently (and he hasn't been!), that doesn't mean we don't need him.

I would argue we can't afford to carry players who don't suit certain games, and we definitely shouldn't be making them captains.

Imo he doesn’t get into our starting 11 midfield at the moment but there’s a big role for him coming off the bench and playing in cups and Europe.

Needs to step up though.

He is a senior player, we can't afford to carry senior players in our squad that can only be trusted when things are going in our favor.

Proving just to be a good option from the bench currently.

I think his lack of versatility is showing him up here like for England. Not sure he's best suited to Ange's system if not the AM.
