Maddison has been decent this season and was playing well yesterday. It doesn’t always have to mean you are shit or out of favour if you get subbed - it was the right call for that game. As others have noted, right now if there is only room for one of Maddison and Kulu then it’s going to be Kulu.

There’s more than enough games to go round if we do well across multiple competitions this year. Having players of Maddison’s quality competing for places is exactly where we want to be

He was playing well I thought, and had created 4 chances in the 45, which was a good number.

But I understand the switch to Sarr yesterday. On another day where we can dominate more and don't need Sarr's legs he stays on the pitch I reckon

I thought Maddison had a very good first half, and Ange made a sensible change to improve the intensity and physicality of the team in an area where Ange thought it was needed. Simple as that. Don’t think it has to be read into any more than that.

I would start Sarr over him at Palace though. I think Sarr to the right to deal with Eze coming inside is needed.

I thought a midfield duo of Madds and Kulu might struggle against the stronger midfields but thought it would be Kulu that made way, but he’s excelled with creatively, tenacity and work rate and now looks the mainstay.

So far across the transfer window and season so far I've heard:
  • Sell Kulusevski
  • Sell Bentacur
  • Romero is shit
  • Son is washed up
Now it's drop Maddison. Bet that doesn't end up making anyone look silly either.

And yet… some will jump into that river of flaming shit with wondrous glee of a five year old child!!

Apparently he created the most chsnces of any player this season in a game in just 45 mins against West Ham. Not sure I get why people think he was so poor? He was very good going forward but yes in defence he wasn’t the best but West Ham are a big team.

To be fair, I probably still think Bents is our most "expendable" midfielder and while that's not saying we should sell him, I do think he's the most upgradeable midfielder (not much between him and Biss really though).

Also, Kulu on the wing in this formation is a world of difference from Kulu in the middle and even after his performances in pre-season, I don't think many of us would've thought he'd be as good as he has been.
So again, as a winger under Ange, Deki was probably upgradeable because he didn't really fit but then, he's always said he's best through the middle and boy, was he right!

I didn't agree with selling Romero but I can understand why some were tempted to cash in to the tune of 80-100m from Real.

And in all reality, Son probably is on the wane because his game is mainly about pace (and deadly finishing tbh) and he's no spring chicken anymore but he's Sonny. He's class and deserves to end his career with us for the loyalty, love and dedication he's given us.
(Not to mention the goals!).

I’m not saying drop Maddison but he has not looked his consistent self for nearly a year now. Since his injury he is dominating the games he was back then . He’s not creating the chances and racking up assists .

different games suit different midfield players especially with the way we set up . Certain games we can get away with playing Maddison and Kulu together and others we need an extra defensive players . That’s just the way it is .
On current form I would say Kulu is the only nailed on starter from our midfield options

Ange has made this kind of change before.

The significant difference about yesterday's was that he didn't shunt Kulu out to the right to accommodate.
That’s not it for me. The difference is that he saw what needed to change and did it early. We didn’t wait until the game had turned before doing something

Exactly, the fact is the midfield wasnt quite right up against theirs, despite us creating chances - we were giving up even bigger ones.

Yes their goal was partly down to defensive sloppiness, but they had a similar chance 5 mins before in which they should of scored.

They were slicing through us too easily.

Could easily of ended up 3-3 had it stayed liked that, or worse.

Ange sacrfrised Maddison, and Sarr made us more compact/competive in the middle and suddenly their threat was nullified yet we still carried our threat, in fact we looked even better going forward.

Thats good management and Im convinced it won us the game.

Maddison was playing well on Sunday. He's having a really good season. It's just that Deki is having an even better season and it's not clear if we are better playing just one or both of them. I think because Deki is playing so well, it over shadows Madders good form. With a Bale or Kane infront of them, we annihilate pretty much everyone we've played this season. ACM is an area of strength for us now, as Bergvall is also coming through and I hope we can make it work with 2 in the line up.
