Yeah I'm very happy to be a bit patient with him to be honest, considering how bad he was for so much of the back end of last season. Even if he's still short of where he needs to be, his performances have gone up IMO, which is positive.

Would love to see him improve when closer to goal though, as he looks very far from being a player who will add many goals for us at the moment, which shouldn't be said of someone with his ability.
He did have 2 chances in on goal though. Those sort of runs Dele would make but his touch let him down both times. I thought that was encouraging to see him make those runs.

Yeah those are the types that I think he should be converting though really, well the first one at least. Also manages to get himself into good areas in the box but seems to twist and turn until he can no longer get a shot off.

Definitely encouraging to see him make those runs and actually get into such positions, but he's not quite got that killer instinct yet. I never feel like he's going to score from the chances he has at the moment. Genuinely think that once he gets one it will lift him a bit in that regard. He certainly has the ability to chip in more with the goals.

Good again today, much more like top for madders, linking play nicely.

Corners and his free kick could’ve been better.

I disagree. Thought despite some nice touches and the 2 chances his passing was awful, and he lost the ball a number of times. Honestly the number of times he misplaced a simple pass was frustrating to see.

would be nice if he took it up a notch starting this week...

not saying he is playing badly, quite happy with him actually. We just need him at or near his best

Think a lot of the criticism of him is very harsh after the way he’s started the season. When you watch him live in the stadium you really appreciate how he’s constantly on the move trying to create a passing lane as he’s desperate to get on the ball. I don’t think he’ll ever be able to last a full 90 because of the above and the way he drops so deep to start our attacks, but if he can give us that energy for 60 mins and improve his goal scoring output I think he’s a huge asset. Also having some threats elsewhere will mean the oppo can’t give him as much attention as they tend to.

Fair play to him - looking much more like the player we saw pre injury last season.

I think any criticism he receives is not just due to how he started last season, but because we know how high his level can be. This is a player who until recently was in the mix for a starting spot for an England team with lots of very good options in his position.

He's been good so far. We know he can be incredible.

they did a bit on him on ssn this morning - only 2nd to Saka out of league this season in chances created.

The criticism is insane. He's started the season on top form. We've played 2 and he's played really well in both games. He's made 2 assists, made 2.5 key passes per game, he's got a pass percentage of 86%, which for an attacking midfielder is very good and he's averaged 60 passes per game, which is also very good, especially when you consider he came off after 79 mins in both games. If you want to find fault you can do so in any players game. But if you want to rate him relative to other actual footballers, which is probably a good idea, then he's had a very good start to the season and long may it continue.

Doing great so far, makes us click. Just takes too long to shoot, I wouldn't be surprised if Romero outscores him again. But he will have 10+ assists and many key passes if he stays healthy.

He has said he prefers to play deeper as an 8 rather than a 10.
That’s I would like to see, plenty of players to slip into a 10. Does he have the stamina for it for 90mins?

Has started the season very well, which is funny considering how many were ready to make him scapegoat after pre-season.

Gibbs White and Angel Gomes now picked ahead of him for England. He doesn’t even get a mention of notable names that have been left out.

Hopefully this fuels him to play better. Actually think he has started the season well

Good. Let it fuel him. Flash in the pan won't work, let him consistently strive for the highest level. At his best he's a shoe-in and will get back in the squad sooner rather than later. Half that midfield is not better than him, let's see how he reacts.
