It’s obvious the new goal kick rules would be bad for us with our players against the good teams. Just kick it long against them more often than not, it’s much safer.

Arsenal fans: Oh look, spurs fans once again think we're a good team :joyful::joyful::joyful:

Clearly MOTM v the scum Sunday

Yes he’s not the best with his feet but when it comes to goalkeeping there are very few better

Has great hands, rarely spills shots however tricky

Has been an absolutely brilliant servant for the club and is still underrated and taken for granted by so many supporters

Has been a massive part of our recent 'success'

Long may he be between our sticks

We just need to stop making him play out from the back. It’s a clear weakness and other teams target it now. Otherwise he was brilliant yesterday.

hugo has made the most saves out of any keeper in the PL so far this season with 19. Good stat for him but does it highlight how bad we have been defending?
Yes. Our defending as a team has been dreadful at times. I do think we were a lot better defensively against Arsenal however, especially in that first half (prior to the brainfarts that led to their first goal by Sanchez and then Rose).

Hugo has had a good start to the season. He seems to be better when he's more busy. If we have 90% possession and he's called into action for the first time in the 50th minute, sometimes he can look a little dodgy. But it seems to me that when were under pressure, he responds really well. Not that I blame him, it's not easy suddenly being called into action when your fingers and body are inevitably rather cold from standing idly around.

But we are much more likely to lose the ball if we go long from goal kicks?

I totally get the short goal kicks. If defenders are standing next to the goalkeeper, the opposition attackers will push further up the field and thus give our attackers more space in the middle of the pitch. Yes, there were some heart stopping moments but whenever we broke through the high block with those short goal kicks, the likes of Son, Eriksen, Lamela and Kane were able to carry the ball further and counter with space to run into. That space isn’t there if we take longer goal kicks.

We defend like cheese and butter.
Lots of holes and easy to cut through.

Hugo has been bailing us out every so often. Last season he saved 4 consecutive penalties. Without him, our European adventure would be on Thursday instead of Wednesday and we would not have beem able to sign Ndombele n Lo celso

Hugo's started the season in great form. Top save from Mrs. Sideshow Bob. Also excellent at City.

I do agree with that but its a hard one. Do it against lower teams by all means but going it repeatedly against the top teams is a mistake. Thankfully we mixed it up.

Our defending has been dreadful to start the season, we're far too narrow and we're making basic mistakes. It's a system and personnel issue atm.

So thank fuck for this legend. He's had an absolutely storming start to the season. Was excellent last season, but has gone up a level again so far. Long may it continue.

Great shot stopper. Just don't understand how the coaching staff haven't managed to work with him on his kicking technique, including body shape, how and when he makes contact with the ball and being able to vary things to increase his options and aid his decision making. He seems to have only one backspin-type chip and only be able to use his left.

A lot is made about Lloris' kicking, it's absolutely nowhere near as bad as made out. Basically all 'keepers bar maybe Ederson and Pickford have erratic kicking at best. I, personally, think it's our style of play that makes it seem bad to people imo imo imo

Kicking myth again? Lets submit a petition to get back Kieran Trippier and put him as our goalie. He can't defend but at least he has good distribution especially to our centrebacks.

And Trippier can take freekicks as well, its like having our own Chilavert.
Lloris hasnt been scoring goals or freekicks, and that is a negative mark on a goalie. Needs more pratice he does.

His long distance kicking has generally improved, it's his decision making which should be bought into question, sometimes you can't pass it short if a player is marked facing their own goal.

Yeah but, that often happens because he's given the ball under preasure and that's the most immediate action he can take.
