Because it's blindingly obvious to anyone who understands football; biology and physics that he COULDN'T HAVE JUT HOOFED IT.

I refer to the very very many pundits who have opined on our collapse because NOT ONE SINGLE EX PLAYER HAS SUGGESTED HE SHOULD HAVE.

Jesus Christ - do you see fucking pattern here? Do you not think someone commenting on the game might have just mentioned that we would have won but for an horrendous defensive decision by WInks?

Are you not asking yourself why?

This is so toe-curlingly embarrassing.

Doesn't matter how much you dance up and down, it won't change my mind or anybody else's I'd imagine.

The only person's opinion who matters is Jose Mourinho.

And I'm not trying to change your mind - I'm just mortified at how embarrassing some Spurs fans knowledge of the reality of football is and needed to vent. It's really cringey.

As soon as him and Sissoko were on the pitch I had flashbacks of the last 3 years. Sissoko terrible touch puts winks under pressure and he loses it for the sequence before the third.

Both players are good enough to be in the squad but both can't play at the same time in my opinion

Maybe I don't know as much about football as you but it seemed clear to me that that wasn't an option - even the slightest miscalculation would have been a free kick with Creswell salivating on the edge of the box. He had to try and win the ball legally and with minimum risk which he did. Hardly his fault Lanzini bangs in a fluke from 30 yards.

Micah Richards thought he did well in that 50/50 fwiw. But I suspect he knows less about football - and defending - than either of us

I find this Winks hate utterly baffling. As Jose said when he came on he brought a balance to the side that had drifted as Ndombele tired and the - genuinely ineffectual - Bergwijn was removed. It's no coincidence that our two best chances of the second half happened when he came on the pitch.

Or perhaps Mourinho also knows less about football than you?

I don't personally think Winks is the long term answer for us but the levels of anger and blame on him for this result are absolutely fucking ludicrous. No one's pointing the finger at Bale who came and did fuck all apart from coughing the ball up repeatedly in dangerous areas and one piece of sublime skill followed by a fluffed finish.

The state of you people with your scape goats. He came on. He did his job. He will continue to do that because Mourinho - like Poch - values him. You may not agree but show a bit of respect. For yourselves if not for a Spurs player who gives everything for the shirt.

It's not a hatred. He made enough contact with the ball to smash it away. He decided to be clever

Everyone has their own view and opinion on the situation, the way you have shot people down is as cringey. Stop letting it bother you to that extent.

IMO, only one is serviceable enough and just barely. The other is not. Ive seen more than enough. Winks really shouldnt get more PL games for us. He isnt good enough for our squad. Rather give his time to Gedson or White. Sissoko’s fine enough for this season but needs replacing as well.

You're right. We all have a right to absolutely shit all over our players regardless of whether anyone who has played the game at that level thinks what said player did was fine under the circumstances.

It reflects brilliantly on us as a fan base. (y)

Not a single commentator - whether former player or not - has come to this judgement. Not a single one.

Maybe they will in tomorrow's papers or later editions - but nothing I've seen so far... No one. Simply no one has suggested Winks was at fault for that final goal.

Except the people in this thread.

Maybe Jose will in private - in which case we won't be seeing Winks again. So all's well that ends well?

Really hope Lo Celso is fit ASAP to give us more options on the bench to bring on instead of him, when we take off Tanguy we need some adequate to look after the ball and make the right decisions

You seem stressed. Go and grab your Winks action figure, give him a cuddle, tell him it’s okay.

Jut kidding.

Does anyone know if Woodward has another £50m burning in his pocket to add another player in his stockpile of midfielders ?

Pochettino potentially ruined Winks. When Winks first burst on to the scene he always looked to play the ball early and looked to play the ball forward. Then he started playing tika taka football and to be fair to Winks, stayed disciplined for the team (which fans generally don't understand and therefore hammer players for it).

I like Winks. He is a neat and tidy player and I think if he had some more confidence he could be better than he is. But he isn't a DM and in the role that would suit him better he is competing with N'Dombele and Lo Celso, both of whom are superior in quality to Winks.
Winks play tiki taka?? Like passing back to whoever passes to you qualifies as tiki taka?

Surely you are having a laugh

Im not sure we can have them even in the squad if we want to progress.

Looking at our squad now I would have to say that our main weaknesses are winks and sissoko.
Shame as I would love to see him do well but playing as a deep defensive midfielder just doesn't suit his game.
