I’m not saying he didn’t pass forward but that’s where the stats are skewed. I’d love to see a breakdown of who he passed forward to. I almost guarantee most are to the full backs or PEH
There was a point in the game that I was going to count how many times he actually passed to a forward but I forgot.

He frustrates the fuck out of me with his reluctance to even attempt simple incisive passes. Granted he can spread the play well but watch when he’s under pressure to pass forward, he goes sideways to Hojbjerg every. Single. Time.
Well that's got to be an improvement most say he always passes backwards:whistle:

I used to defend Winks all the time but can't anymore. Hasn't improved in years. He's meant to be the control the tempo of matches and be a calming influence yet we seem to constantly shit the bed with him in the side.

It is clear Winks isnt first choice but our defending was crap throughout. They just scored their goals in the last 10 mins but they had the chances before the last 10 mins and before Winks came on.

This is a team issue not a Winks issue.

Genuinely have no idea what this guy offers. Yes tries, but in terms of ability on the pitch, what does he actually excel at? Has no ability to stamp his mark in midfield, physically weak especially when time and space is cut out. Putting aside Ndombele and Lo Celso's massively superior passing ability compared to Winks, they can also both look after themselves physically and have the ability to come away with the ball in tight awkward situation.

Seems a nice enough kid buy hope Mourinho looks to get rid.

He has built a career off of one performance against Barcelona which we lost 4-2 anyway. Sums him up.

Has absolutely no outstanding features whatsoever. Plays safe passes and is tactically indisciplined. He’s no better a footballer than the likes of Ryan Mason or Tom Carroll. He’s about as good as Stambouli and Capoue was when they were at the club but because he’s ‘one of our own’ he’s safe from abuse from most fans. He’s essentially our Mark Noble.

Shit footballer and has no place whatsoever in the match day squad when Lo Celso is back. Sell him to whatever moron is willing to give us money for him.

lol at us losing control as soon as winks came on.

just like against newcastle we lost control when we decided that we could just turn up in the 2nd half and cruise home without trying to play.

We were the same against Leicester at the end of last season. Blew them away on the counter and then for some reason just stopped playing. Luckily for us Leicester were shit that game but it is nothing new.

Feel for him but he’s not good enough to compete at the very top sadly. It’s a shame because he’s a nice lad.

What chances are you referring to? West ham had 4 shots on target 3 of which were after Winks came on the pitch and they scored from.

Shot on target does not equal chance. They had plenty of chances. We allowed a lot of crosses and a lot of space all game. We continue to make silly little challengers that give up set pieces, which we are beyond atrocious defending.

now, Winks has to boot that last ball into the stands, No doubt. It’s really bad. But we didn’t have control of that game at any point in the 2nd half. We were out for a stroll in the park.

winks can’t do too much about Sanchez badly misjudging two more headers.

They had several good positional play exactly like what they had with Winks on the pitch except they scored from those areas - down to poor defending moreso than Winks...

Also as for chances, they had a clear open goal they missed, Kane put in a good block just before HT. I recall Antonio also having a chance just before our goal. The goals were always coming, the pressure was being put on us, it may not have been intense pressure but it was pressure. I get it, the opposition will always have opportunities and goal we will always concede, no one will ever not concede a goal again but to have Winks as a scapegoat when the issues were prevalent before coming on is a bit misguided.

Jose seems happy with Winks..
That game at that moment was like that, with Winks on the pitch the team gained again that stability that we had. We were very much comfortable, we were in control. Then the first half appeared and everything changed.

Could be case I guess of not wanting to throw him under the bus so to speak
