Agreed, he's not the dm we need long term but I vastly prefer a footballer with mistakes in him for now rather than somebody who has the same mistakes and not even half the footballing ability being asked to do that role which then forces our best creative outlet to have to drop back also.

We look better with him in the side at the moment, provides better balance at least.
Agreed; however I would just like him at times to be more aggressive in his passing and try and break the lines more.

Still plays too safe for me but that might be the instructions he is being given.

5 yard pass is his optimum. He is basically Scott Parker but with no bite and worse shooting (the worse shooting part is the ultimate insult)

Don't see the issue with Winks. He isn't first choice but he is certainly better than what he is currently showing.

I see the winks who played against Real Madrid a couple of years back and see the one now and they're different but he is better than what is currently shown.

I like winks.

the main problem is that he cannot consistently perform at that level

As he is, or never has been a DM.
But it looks like we have been trying to make him play as one for a while now.

I still think Winks has a place in our squad, holding/center midfield.

I think we should play a midfield 3 with Lo Celso and Ndombele playing as two 8's and that Winks is perfect to be the player that rotates with those 2 depending on the game.

You're right and that's why he isn't a first team player in my view but he is more than capable squad player.

Also is he really a DM? I don't think so.
I'm convinced Winks is better in a 4-3-3 with a proper holder in the middle and him and one other either side. He isn't a DM and pairing him and Sissoko in a CM2 is just asking for trouble as neither are particularly suited to the role they're asked to play in that system.

The best game I've seen him play in recent years was in a 4-3-3 for England against Kosovo last autumn when he scored and was a clear MOTM.

Yes playing a role that suits him. He doesn’t get that option with us. Seems he is told to stay close to the bath four.

Did great yesterday and we looked a lot more solid with him in midfield. Jose made a massive error not picking him for the Sheffield game.

I thought he had a good match yesterday. People moan that he is ‘too safe’ or not ‘adventurous’ enough with his passing but have you ever considered that it’s because he’s following instructions? He seems to be our only midfielder that currently has any discipline or positional sense. For that reason he needs to start every match.

To be fair, his long shooting isn't that bad. He's hit the bar and post a fair few old times and hasn't had much luck.

I don't know why Winks is such a divisive figure. Hes a good player that helps give Tottenham defensive security and control with the ball, the right opinion is to think hes decent but there are players out there that are better that could give us a bit more athleticism and ball progression but i dont know who they are and what price they would be. Sad to see such a big fan of Tottenham that is actually playing for the team get dismissed and hated on as much.

Because he's never played balls like Eriksen does despite always being asked to play out of position and sit deep.
