I thought it was laughable when Matt Hughes compared him to Carrick. That Geordie journalist was the only one who called it accurately. Neat and tidy but doesn't affect the game enough, not progressive enough, nothing in the final third.

Yeah I thought it was a fair reflection on him, he needs to add that to his game in order to be in the same convo with the names they mentioned and to nail down his spot on the teamsheet. Especially with Ndombele and Gedson now to compete with.

For me the easiest criticism of Winks and his "forward passing" is the visible difference in the way Lo Celso & Ndombele move the ball with quickness and purpose in the same areas of the pitch. There is a massive gap in ability between those 2 and Winks.

Playing well today. Covering a lot of ground and played some nice passes. Shame we don't have anyone to hold the ball up.

Was impressed early on with some the passes he was playing over the top, usually they're far and few between. Maybe those are part of the upgrade turning 24. His defensive contribution was superb also.

Good today. Credit where due.

His passing is still not good enough the most simple and not enough power on most.

Looks like he's getting over the ankle issues. He's getting better at using his body and speed to get ahead of players and intercept passes. That run to that lead to Zinchenko getting sent off was vital.

MOTM today, he was everywhere. So so good, probably his best game ever for us. He’s been getting too much undeserved criticism this season and you must be crazy to think he’s not good enough to play for us

And his acceleration is very underrated

Not for me he's completely deserved his criticism. Just like today he deserves an awful lot of praise. The one comes with the other imo.

I've been very critical of him but tonight against City he was immense. Worked constantly and had perfect defensive awareness - best match I've seen from him in for ages.

Very well played by Winks today, fair play lad and keep up those types of performances.
