I actually think that with Ndombele getting up to speed and Sessegnon/ Lo Celso now fit, plus Dele getting closer to form, we finally have the tools available to make the diamond work, irony being we probably won’t see it now after how disastrous it has been earlier this season.

I think we are lacking the DM unless we are going for Lo Celso/Ndombele as the two CM's with dele at the tip and Winks in the 6 but Im not sure on Winks for that role but i do think our signings were geared towards it I just worry about defending the wide areas in the diamond. If we could switch to 451 whilst out of possesion itd be great.

I'd have said the signings were geared towards 433 (or maybe that's wishful thinking). We knew Eriksen would be off and I'm hoping we move away from the 'playmaker 10' system. We should learn our lesson that relying too heavily on one player's creativity can go badly wrong and I reckon Ndombele and Lo Celso can creare plenty from deeper positions. The caveat to that is that we need fullbacks with an end product. Sessegnon could be one but we need one on the right as well.

Nice play for England from Harry Winks last night. He's deserved all the praise he's had since the match.

It looks like our midfielders need to be bumped up 1 position . Winks up to 8, Ndombele further up and Dele needs to be treated like a forward

Still missing a defensive midfielder and two attacking full backs to make it work.

We could go 4-3-3 instead which essentially becomes a diamond when Kane drops into the point but doesn't lack width

Dier/Sissoko
Ndombele/Winks----Lo Celso/Alli
Lamela/Moura-----------------------------Son/Sess
Kane
I wouldn't be surprised if we try the diamond again when we finally start playing well again though. It always seems harsh to judge it while we're so off form and low in confidence. If everyone was moving and looking for the ball it could work but we really need to dominate possession and press high up to get the best out of it.

It was a nice goal from Winks and he played well but let’s not make out that one goal against a bunch of farmers means he’s a number 8. He’s shown very little in an attacking sense for spurs, in fact he’s shown almost nothing basically in over 100 apps. Certainly nothing to suggest he’s a number 8, let alone close to GLC or NDombele.

Could that change? Yes it could. Will it? I find it highly unlikely.

I honestly think Winks needs a change of manager more than anyone. That might sound bizarre considering the way Poch champions him, but I just find Winks needs a new coach. It’s hard to judge any of our players recently considering they are all in regression under Poch.

Winks is a tough one. If we are going to dominate possession, we could play a 3 man midfield, him being the deepest ticking things over with Ndombele and Lo Celso the creators. But this will need quick full backs who can recover and for us to actually be dominant, which has disappeared of late.

In any other scenario Winks, for me, shouldn't be playing the DM or deepest CM role. He just doesn't have the strength or defensive positioning against teams that will go for us and cause us problems. In these games he is then likely to be sub and either come on to replace Ndombele or Lo Celso who are both better footballers than him, it's as simple as that. Until he starts adding more goals and really believing in himself going forward to create things this is the situation he finds himself in.

Fantastic squad player, however, i'm not too sure he will ever be a main first team player for us. It's all for him to prove really. He needs to take some more chances.

Winks clearly is being asked to play in a way that doesn't suit him when at the club. As you say, he probably needs a change in coaching. When played centrally, with someone behind him who allows him to go forward and take more risks, then he will improve imo.

Potentially yes Winks does play likes he’s limited by instruction from Poch. He seems to be ultra passive and afraid to take risks.

Honestly I know it’s not popular on here but I’m really not seeing the amazing improvement in our young players that people profess Poch is a master at. Winks really hasn’t come on and you can’t blame that all on injuries either.

Under a different coach we will either see the real Winks or we won’t, but I look forward to finding out.

100% on all you said.

I've noticed that both Winks and Sissoko seem like they have been told to take less risks. I haven't see Sissoko do his marauding runs as much as he used to and I think it's down to Poch telling them both to keep it safe while letting Ndombele have more freedom. Winks especially will be suffering from this.

I haven't seen any improvement in any of our players really. They are pretty much the same as 1-2 years ago, except they are now older and a bit more experienced.

I think Winks will be a really useful player in the squad, even if he doesn't kick on from where he is now. As a player I don't think he's that much worse than Henderson or Wijnaldum at Liverpool, but they are clearly playing in an environment where they thrive.

Nice try Harry.
You very nearly passed
the Primativ 'Moving Goalposts' test.

If he'd known they were just farmers
he wouldn't have bothered scoring.

Not only are they not farmers
all play for other European teams
and none are part time.

Anyway H. it's not your fault
but please
don't give up the day job.

Winks looks a much better player further up the pitch. Looks like his proper position.

He's been shoehorned into the DM role because Wanyama has fallen to bits and Dier has turned to kak. It doesn't suit him and I can't understand why Skipp iss out in the cold.

I find him very average. It’s also infuriating when he shoots as it’s almost always miles off.

Our midfield is so, so bad, lack of overall investment, bad buys, bad eggs, and bad luck have contrived to create something horrific.

Am I the only one who thinks his passing range was better when he broke through? I have the feeling he was much more direct and forward thinking?
